Honestly I believe the forum has gone down hill for the simple fact that there are too many young people on the forum these days. This is obvious and just about everyone knows this but the price of the car is now where a lot of young people can get their hands on it and the more that have the car, the more that will be here. With out question the forum used to be a better place but it still is a great place to get any type of technical advice you can come up with. Like others have said...if you have this problem or you want to try to do this, chances are someone else has already been there and has posted about it. Does anyone know when this forum was started? I have recently started to pay attention to registartion dates instead of post counts since there are plenty of guys who joined this past month who already have more posts than I have but still don't know a thing. I don't think I've seen anyone registered before 2001. Was that when the forum was started?

I also agree with this.

ya mahjik is alot of help,

i must be one of those post newbs that ask a bunch of questions, haha sorry guys. but, as you say AGE, im 17, yeah im young and probably dont know half as much as some of you guys do. Thats why i come her for help, it seems as though most shops just try to rip me off cuz im young. i rarely state my age because i know how much kids get flamed, but hey, i take care of my FD, bought it at 118k orig miles, been taking care of it and not doing some of the irresponsible things kids do and now its at 132k, still runnin.

And alot of the problems i think i ask that has already been asked, is the search is semi limited to only 2 words, they must be at least 3 letters, its kinda hard when ur looking for stuff. cause if you touch on certain words, millions of threads come up and alot of the times its not even what youre looking for. hard to filter threw.

aTxRx7 02-18-04 11:48 PM

Hi guys.

I'm really new to the list. The whole reason I'm on this list is to "sponge(bob..yeah it's funny)" up the knowledge that you folks, regardless of age--I'm 28 BTW--offer.

I do share PhatManBUD's search frustrations. Even if I do a Boolean search, the matches include the matched words of the entire thread and not the individual posts of a particular thread, which may help make the search more effective. That being said, I haven't used the search enough, and maybe I just need to get used to using it.

I hope you guys in the know keep posting and offering helpful advice. My goal with my "new" 7 (95...I had a 93 a few years back as a daily driver and when I really couldn't afford it) is to start doing some of the work on it myself. Well I'll need your help and patience to make me successful!!!

Thanks in advance.

I saw the exact same thing happen to the Subaru forums (formerly www.i-club.com , now www.nasioc.com), things change as the years go by. I personally think it's because there are now lots more people on the internet, so we're getting more and more dumb people online now.

One thing I notice is that there's a pretty great FAQ section for the FC, but the FD faq is not nearly as good. A revamp of that might help a lot.

BTW, anyone here on the RX-7 "Big List" as well? I subscribed several weeks ago and although there isn't as much traffic there as here, the quality of posts and knowledge is collectively superior.

adam c 02-19-04 12:26 AM

Why don't the good guys post?? Many of them do. I don't know if I am a good guy or not. Others will have to be the judge of that.

I do find myself being less and less tolerant of really stupid questions. So many of the questions are asked because people are lazy. I would like to see the mods closing more threads. Maybe people would think a little more before starting a new thread, if they thought it would be closed for stupidity.

2-Rotor 02-19-04 12:37 AM

Sometimes some of the older/senior members lurk and do not post. Another thing about this topic is a lot of the informative people dont have a large post count. Maybe its just me but i find some of the most valuable information comes from people who dont care to comment on everything.

I do miss the way the old forum was. Every day it was filled with informative posts and it didnt take a long time to get the question answered. I think most of the senior members may return to this site if Mazda brings the RX-7 back.

Devilish 02-19-04 12:43 AM

I know I've grown very tired of the forum just because of the basic ignorance and rudeness that seems to prevail so many of the threads from both young and not so young.

People ask a question and are insulted for asking the question as opposed to given an answer. For example, a guy asked the other day about turning his FD into a NA engine. Now I don't necessarily agree with it, but if he wants to, be my guest. Instead though, practically the enitre thread was people telling him what a dumb-ass he was and how his car should be taken away from him. NICE.

Basically, the place is devolving into the DSM forums. I've had more nasty PM's from people who didn't agree with me and actually changed my username from MECHABUG a long time ago. Anyone remember that (probably not)? *sigh* I miss the old mailing list too.

jimlab 02-19-04 01:15 AM

I think half the reason people can't find anything using the search feature is that the average forum member can't spell for shit. :p:

I think the search button must be enlarged about 5x's.... I remember when we hit 1000 people on this thing.... now we are at 10k... I don't like people labeling young people as the problem.... I'm 20 and have setup 2 statemeets..... (I hate rain) and have given good advise to more people than I can count.... I know the rotary in and out.... and sometimes it bugs me how the old people label the new people in my words... a pain in the ass... well I stand as an acception to the rule I guess... hey wait... I just drank a 6 pack of arriba from El Salvador... hmmm.... o well

I love my FD but it is certainly maintenance intensive and I have a pretty stock car.

Fuel this logic with the F'nF popularity, and you have an instant explosion of board-veteran-repellant. :D

The total lack of punctuation and use of paragraphs isn't helping much either. I'm not bashing those who aren't native English speakers, just those that put absolutely no effort into organizing their posts.

HOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO TYPE
IN ALL CAPS IN EVERY POST AND ONLY
USE SIX OR SEVEN WORDS PER LINE?

Ewww I forgot about The Fast and the Spurious. Expecting rivets to pop out of the dash from running too much boost might explain some of what we see here.

I really do believe mods should be setting a precedent for quality by closing threads addressing issues which have been discussed 100s of times already.

If the average quality of questions and banter formed about is low with only the uncommon occurence of high quality discussion - what are you left with?

maxcooper 02-19-04 03:00 AM

The absolute worst are these threads:

That one was kind of ugly, chime in next time Devil. I was going to jump on them but I just made a "nice" post saying lots of people run N/A's in SCCA racing.

AdamC your a good guy in my book. King of the airbox mod.

It great to see you guys with low post counts and entry dates in 2001. So you guys are lurking around.:)

Someone tell me more about the "big board". PM maybe.;)

I used to be a member. Years ago there was quite a bit of messages sent out. I stopped subscribing to the list after it started slowing way down. It was a good resource in it's time.

Scrapiron7 02-19-04 08:29 AM

I'm sure some alot of the other senior members get tired of seeing such repetative posts as "I'm 16 and want to drop a 3 rotor into my FD!" and "What BOV is the loudest?"..

Posts like that make me stay far away from the 3rd gen section anymore.
