why dont the good guys post?
Ive been on here a long time...previously on another name which was banned...I shouldnt say that but I wasnt banned for anything that was bad. Im a good honest member it was just some forum bullshit. Any way I notice that all the guys that know their stuff have just finished their cars and left. Maybe its because they got tired of seeing all the shit posts on here and nothing challenges them any more. Well we need the educated people with good ideas to speak up and for the morons that couldnt find their asshole with both hands to stop answering questions and giving out wrong information (you are not an expert because youve browsed the forum because you are bored to death.
Any way would just like kick it up another notch (sorry haha....in the 3d gen section Now the pfc and single turbo forums are the shit thats where all the big dogs are hiding. SM |
Most of the older forum members are gone. I am sure very few people here even remember the mailing list. It's always too bad when a long standing, knowledgable forum member leaves, but it's becoming a regular occurance. Even just looking at how long people have been members here gives you an idea of how few older members are around these days.
|
i am thisclose to leaving as well :)
few random things to finish up on my car, and then i'm going unplugged for a while (moving to houston, tx) |
I'm still here(back from a hiatus). I'm a good guy right? I don't tell n00bs to search. I don't have a negative comment for EVERY post on this forum(unlike a few people I can think of). But I also have a little place of my own(which has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year) that I like to stay at. Maybe that's why I'm not bitter about mods like some of the "Vets".
|
It's because so many people joined (mostly younger) that disrespected the senior members who've been there and done that. I remember when Gordon Monsen left for that reason. The experienced and knowledgable members answer the newbie questions, but the answer isn't what they want to hear (ie, properly modding the car costs money, hell owning the car costs money).
Hell, I sometimes wonder why I'm on here so much (not that I put myself with the "good guys"). A good portion of the threads started in the 3rd gen section these days are worthless. It's amazing to see the same topic repeated within a SINGLE day. It just gets old. |
well I must say to this point you are the ones I was thinking of as good members.
I totally understand that everything to do with this car is slowly fading away because of these new members and its age but Id like for it to remain thought of as the high class car that it is and for everyone to act accordingly. Why cant we make a section for the veterans and newbs then? |
i don't consider myself a veteran or a newb, but i do think that with every post i read, the more cynical i become- if you just become a reader you can quickly identify the intellectuals, i think mahjik is the best role model when it comes to tolerance, hospitatlity, and intelligence
people that post and ask for advice but argue with your advice or argue with me about MY car....grrr |

Surge are you getting soft on all of us. Remember who did your first oil change!!
Can't wait til you get the beast back...we'll make that drive to the Steve Kan tuning. |
Ah the good old days, how I remember them! :(
We could use some of the old members here. |

Hey don't go equating newness on the forum to not knowing what your talking about, or being a nueb. Shit I had my first RX-7 in 1979. A lot of guys on here were unborn or babes. Some of you younger guys will move on raise a family and stuff. They will leave the forum and maybe come back later when they have more time. I'm sure this is happening now. Thats kind of my tale. Good thread, I hate to see the guys that know there stuff leave. RYnberg is right, too many repetitive threads. I thing the mods just need to clamp down a little.:) |

The reason I don't post often is due to a few turds telling me I don't know what I am talking about. I turn my own wrenches and have broken more things than most have even seen.
I still do help but I choose to do it via PM and less in public. Chris |

I have a background in racing and auto mechanics, but I these cars definitely have their own personalities. This forum is invaluable when dealing with these cars! |
I remember joining this forum when it only had around 500 members. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It's too bad that there are so many immature people that don't know how to treat others. There is way too much negativity going around this forum, which is the reason I can't stand this place anymore. I seriously think this forum sucks. Is it possible to have this forum the way it was a few years ago? Definitely.
|
I think as said above it's kinda just the life cycle of the forum. Members come and members go. I think some move on away from the FD because they've owned one for so long and seek other interests, and other's get busy with work, family, whatnot and just don't get time to check in anymore. I'll admit I've seen some people posting info that is totally not correct and I don't say anything. Mostly because if you do, a war of words will come forth and I just haven't got the time anymore. It does seem like there's more false info(newbies trying to be master mechanics)than the old days(anyone else remember when rx7club.com wasn't a forum yet?) but that's just to me.
Don't get me wrong, there are still lots of people on here that know their stuff and this board is still has a ton more info/informative people than other boards. |
I agree. Even over the last 9 months that i have been here there has been a huge change in the intellect of some of the people posting. When i first started out, i would post a question and i would have like 10 responses with in a day. Almost all of the responses helped. Now i post a real question, and it takes over a full day to get 1 reply. Alot of the time that response doesnt even help me. It kinda sickens me.

I've been around for a couple years now and it seems that lately most of the posts to this forum have nothing at all to do with cars, but are more related to kids behaving badly.
A few minutes ago I read a thread (that looks like it was removed) where the author was complaining that the girl who alleges that she was abused and raped by teammates deserved it because she shouldn't have been playing football. I think the larger problem is the many of the people sho post here now don't seem to have any respect for anything. Let alone any common sense and decency. |
While I'm certainly not a veteran by any stretch of the imagination (number of posts should give you a clue), I have been reading this forum for well over a year and a half before I "joined". I can say that I can fully respect the older members of this forum and agree that their insight and experience would sorely be missed if they decided as a group to leave this forum. I think in general the responses I've received have been very informative and certainly given the respect they deserved. I do admit that I often check the number of posts when looking at responses I've received.
Why anyone would decide to bad mouth or ridicule someone asking for help or advice is beyond me, especially on a forum! I for one appreciate the help and insight I've received from the vetern's of this forum and urge you to stay! |
i guess most of the questions are ones that have a million threads with the exact same question already. ive seen same topic threads on the same page. and i guess its all the annoying kids who feel the need for name calling and attacking other members for whatever reason... stating unpleasant opinions is one thing but i dunno how many times ive seen some kid say "retard" among other things... i mean personal attacks are unnecessary.
also its annoying the kids that dont have a car yet but dream about it and are just wasting time with dumb questions... ive been reading this for a couple years and i didnt even join until right before i bought my car. im not much of a vet or guru but even i can answer a lot of questions just from seeing it over and over. i guess kids these days are getting dumber and dumber, just turn on the tv and look at what their watching. teletubbies? they cant even speak english right, let alone teach kids. spongebob? that shit is ridiculous if i had kids i would never let them watch that garbage. too bad snook, who sold me the car, got banned. we need more nice people who are either helpful or thankful and humble. |
hey. . . im still posting!!!! :D
paul |
I think Im the oldest member on here :D
Times change and alot of the old members have sold their cars and moved on. Getting married and having kids doesnt help either :) Jason |
hey, i'm 23 and think spongebob is hilarious. i'm not "exactly" an idiot either. i have a 135 IQ and i'm a mechanical engineer for the US Deparment of Defense designing Chemical, Biological and Nuclear defense and protection devices... although, i agree, Teletubbies... WTF?!?! i will admit to asking a question that has been asking recently but its more or less because the previous post started turning into a fighting match and NEVER actually answered the question, so i try to get a new one going to get a staright answer. i always try to listen to the advice/answers given and be respectful but when its an obvious or blatant lie or just has nothing to do with the question, i get a little ticked.
|
i think spongebob is hilarious... but what is it teaching kids? how to act like a moron and be class clown?
|
ah... you make a good point... i dont' really watch it for the "educational" value... good thing too apparently :)

Honestly I believe the forum has gone down hill for the simple fact that there are too many young people on the forum these days. This is obvious and just about everyone knows this but the price of the car is now where a lot of young people can get their hands on it and the more that have the car, the more that will be here. With out question the forum used to be a better place but it still is a great place to get any type of technical advice you can come up with. Like others have said...if you have this problem or you want to try to do this, chances are someone else has already been there and has posted about it. Does anyone know when this forum was started? I have recently started to pay attention to registartion dates instead of post counts since there are plenty of guys who joined this past month who already have more posts than I have but still don't know a thing. I don't think I've seen anyone registered before 2001. Was that when the forum was started?

ya mahjik is alot of help,
i must be one of those post newbs that ask a bunch of questions, haha sorry guys. but, as you say AGE, im 17, yeah im young and probably dont know half as much as some of you guys do. Thats why i come her for help, it seems as though most shops just try to rip me off cuz im young. i rarely state my age because i know how much kids get flamed, but hey, i take care of my FD, bought it at 118k orig miles, been taking care of it and not doing some of the irresponsible things kids do and now its at 132k, still runnin. And alot of the problems i think i ask that has already been asked, is the search is semi limited to only 2 words, they must be at least 3 letters, its kinda hard when ur looking for stuff. cause if you touch on certain words, millions of threads come up and alot of the times its not even what youre looking for. hard to filter threw. |
Hi guys.
I'm really new to the list. The whole reason I'm on this list is to "sponge(bob..yeah it's funny)" up the knowledge that you folks, regardless of age--I'm 28 BTW--offer. I do share PhatManBUD's search frustrations. Even if I do a Boolean search, the matches include the matched words of the entire thread and not the individual posts of a particular thread, which may help make the search more effective. That being said, I haven't used the search enough, and maybe I just need to get used to using it. I hope you guys in the know keep posting and offering helpful advice. My goal with my "new" 7 (95...I had a 93 a few years back as a daily driver and when I really couldn't afford it) is to start doing some of the work on it myself. Well I'll need your help and patience to make me successful!!! Thanks in advance. -in Austin, TX |
I saw the exact same thing happen to the Subaru forums (formerly www.i-club.com , now www.nasioc.com), things change as the years go by. I personally think it's because there are now lots more people on the internet, so we're getting more and more dumb people online now.
One thing I notice is that there's a pretty great FAQ section for the FC, but the FD faq is not nearly as good. A revamp of that might help a lot. -s- |
BTW, anyone here on the RX-7 "Big List" as well? I subscribed several weeks ago and although there isn't as much traffic there as here, the quality of posts and knowledge is collectively superior.
|
Why don't the good guys post?? Many of them do. I don't know if I am a good guy or not. Others will have to be the judge of that.
I do find myself being less and less tolerant of really stupid questions. So many of the questions are asked because people are lazy. I would like to see the mods closing more threads. Maybe people would think a little more before starting a new thread, if they thought it would be closed for stupidity. |
Sometimes some of the older/senior members lurk and do not post. Another thing about this topic is a lot of the informative people dont have a large post count. Maybe its just me but i find some of the most valuable information comes from people who dont care to comment on everything.
I do miss the way the old forum was. Every day it was filled with informative posts and it didnt take a long time to get the question answered. I think most of the senior members may return to this site if Mazda brings the RX-7 back. |
I know I've grown very tired of the forum just because of the basic ignorance and rudeness that seems to prevail so many of the threads from both young and not so young.
People ask a question and are insulted for asking the question as opposed to given an answer. For example, a guy asked the other day about turning his FD into a NA engine. Now I don't necessarily agree with it, but if he wants to, be my guest. Instead though, practically the enitre thread was people telling him what a dumb-ass he was and how his car should be taken away from him. NICE. Basically, the place is devolving into the DSM forums. I've had more nasty PM's from people who didn't agree with me and actually changed my username from MECHABUG a long time ago. Anyone remember that (probably not)? *sigh* I miss the old mailing list too. |
I think half the reason people can't find anything using the search feature is that the average forum member can't spell for shit. :p:
|
know dout, Jim! :)
-Max |
I think the search button must be enlarged about 5x's.... I remember when we hit 1000 people on this thing.... now we are at 10k... I don't like people labeling young people as the problem.... I'm 20 and have setup 2 statemeets..... (I hate rain) and have given good advise to more people than I can count.... I know the rotary in and out.... and sometimes it bugs me how the old people label the new people in my words... a pain in the ass... well I stand as an acception to the rule I guess... hey wait... I just drank a 6 pack of arriba from El Salvador... hmmm.... o well

I love my FD but it is certainly maintenance intensive and I have a pretty stock car. The total lack of punctuation and use of paragraphs isn't helping much either. I'm not bashing those who aren't native English speakers, just those that put absolutely no effort into organizing their posts. |

I really do believe mods should be setting a precedent for quality by closing threads addressing issues which have been discussed 100s of times already.
If the average quality of questions and banter formed about is low with only the uncommon occurence of high quality discussion - what are you left with? |
The absolute worst are these threads:
Subject: help me out 12:30 AM hey i have a problem with my car and my cousin says its spark plugs but i dont think thats it my dad says its exhaust convertr but i think he worng to air filter then the noises 12:41 AM please help 1:04 AM come on you jerks no one help me 1:32 AM still no help screw you assholes for not helping me i thought rotory community was tight but pinto peoples is better help real fast Ingrates! -Max |

I'm sure some alot of the other senior members get tired of seeing such repetative posts as "I'm 16 and want to drop a 3 rotor into my FD!" and "What BOV is the loudest?"..
Posts like that make me stay far away from the 3rd gen section anymore. |
