Why do I have 2 BOVs?

I recently purchased a 92 RX-7, and was lucky enough to get 2 Apexi twin chamber BOVs with it. Hehe! I was planning on selling them to get a bit of extra cash towards new tyres.

One has replaced the Air Bypass Valve, connected to the horizontal pipe sticking out of the Y-pipe. The other has replaced the Charge Relief Valve, connected on top of the Y-pipe. I didn't think that a BOV would be a drop-in replacement for a CRV. The airbox has been replaced with two apexi air filters. As far as I can tell everything else is where it should be. Except for the boost gauge.. number 1 on the list of things to do.

Does anyone know if this would cause any problems? I'm assuming that the two BOVs were installed because they are red, like the car. I have a stock valve that was in the storage bin when I got the car, but I don't know if it's the ABV or CRV. I'll try figure that out when I get home tonight.

I drove an FC for 5 years before I got this car.. I still love the FC, but WOW. These cars are nice :)

Well, the stock BOV and CRV are the same part, and can be used interchangeably....so I doubt that having to aftermarket BOVs did any harm

Technically, they are not the same part, and cannot be used interchangeably.

The Air Bypass Valve (closer to front of car) opens with 3.9-6.7 inHG, and the Charge Relief Valve (real BOV, closer to back of car) opens at 6.5-9.3 inHG. See here for more detail. http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...leshooting.htm

911 is right. . . if you take them apart you can also see the difference in the internals. . . .

oh poop. Sorry then
I was told by someone that they are the same part. Crap. Is there any way just by looking at them to tell them apart? Because I would like to know if I have them mixed up.

IIRC, mines are *both* brown. Eh, doesn't matter anyways, it's all just colour. To the post before yours... the function of each unit is labeled with a sticker across the top rim.

You have that Backwords - The Air Bypass Valve (ABV) is the normal BOV and the Charge Relief Valve (CRV) vents the Second Turbo during Pre-Spool.

Well I found the stock valve that was in the storage bin when I got the car. And the other one which I didn't know I had! Like WaLieN said, they are labelled ABV and CRV.

I sometimes have a strange noise which happens somewhere between 2.5k and 3.5k rpm. I'm thinking it might be the apexi BOV trying to relieve the boost generated by the secondary turbo before it's online. Now I'll be able to put the original CRV on and find out.

Thanks to all for the info.
