why do flames shoot out the exhaust?

A buddy was following me today and said flames shot out of my exhaust when I got on it once.
What causes this??
I have seen it before.

unburnt fuel getting ignited by the hot exhaust line. Cat + airpump is designed to burn that excess fuel.

You running a midpipe?

Yes, midpipe w/ resonator. RX7 store.

the resonator is really restricting the flames a lot too. If you had a straight exhaust they would go out 3 feet.

It doesnt mean your car is rich in all areas you could be lean in some and rich in others. Always want to have the car tuned well.

The resonated midpipe from RX7store is just a straight through magnaflow muffler, it doesn't restrict anything. Even with the car tuned well its going to still shoot flames.

Flames are cool. They were one of my favorite things about adding a midpipe. Be careful not to melt your rear bumper though. LOL
