I live in the Seattle area and the media reports claim the area is one of the most active for car thefts. So much so that several fed, state and local task forces have been formed in response.

Shortly after I bought my '94 (new) I installed a Viper anti theft system. It was the top 'oline system back in the day. A year or two ago it started acting up so I pulled the relay. Now I just lock her up. I figured I'd get around to trouble shooting it someday. Now after reading the news maybe i should move this task up on my list.

if they want your car, they will take your car. if they want what is in it, then they will try to get it. sad fact of life is that there isnt much you can do about it if you leave your car unattended.

purchase a viper ignition kill, and/or use your pfc to set your rev limiter for 500 rpms. The only way that FD is going anywhere is on a flatbed

I never thought of that. You could set it up for a valet too just set the rev limit to 3-4k. Genius!

Once again, this topic has been covered ad nauseam. If a thief 'really' wants your car, he's going to get it unless you are parking it in Fort Knox.

RotaryKnight (he owned the white FD from the original Fast & the Furious) had about all the protection you could have on a car (2-3 alarms, the club, etc) and his was still stolen.

Simple truth: be smart where you park you car and just keep your insurance up to date. Make sure you understand what your insurance does and does not cover (i.e. verify if they cover everything you have done to the car).

Yup, when I used to go out to the National Training center in the middle of the cali desert, I would set my rev limiter for 500 rpm to make damn sure my roommates didn't go out and have some fun in the FD .

Also, whenever I leave my car with a shop (which now is almost never--for an alignment is about it) I set the rev limiter for 3000 rpms. The only grease monkeys I trust with my FD are Ihor and myself

My upgraded ECU on my other car has a neat feature that requires you to enter a "code" by tapping out a sequence of up-downs in proper order and timing on your gas pedal before the ECU will unlock. The only way to start the car is to know the code... or have a spare ECU to plug in. Pretty clever. Also has a valet mode which disables the code but rev limits to 3k rpm. Surprised so few other computer upgrades haven't implemented some similar anti-theft measures.

Once again, if they want it, they'll get it. Instead of spending money on all those fancy alarms, kill switches and such, just make sure you are covered and move on.

I'm all about the new GPS units. You can hide them anywhere on your car that has a hot wire and it will show the exact location if your car is stolen. I had to put them on new cars for high flight risk individuals when they purchased a car due to low credit scores.

Yeah, the GPS thing sounds decent... I've heard (I forget which brand it is), but some company will only install their system themselves... & they won't even tell the owner where it is at (so I'm assuming it isn't out in the open where anyone could find it). The problem is, there is no such thing as the "uncrackable safe" (any "Mysbusters" fans out there?

As my father in law said, as I was installing new doors in the house I just bought (after my wife asked about the ADT services)... "If someone wanted to rob you... all they would have to do is drive their car through your house..."

While it's oversimplifyin... it's accurate. No matter what you do, there will be a theif that is able and willing to go against even the best of security measures (explains why banks are still being robbed).

Ground the car with a peice of metal to the frame an then touches the ground. Step B take a power outlet an also an extention cord cut the cord (Not plugged in yet) an hook the cord up to the frame an plug it in an go to sleep. Thief goes for it he'll get a nice wake up call not mention your house will be one giant alarm with the lights flickering an all.

Once the unit was installed once you have the car traced it takes close to 60 sec if i remember correctly. The software even gave google earth like picture of the location. It was very accurate.

Question about the GeoTracer.

Assuming that you activated the unit, and a Google Earth map pulls up...what results does it give you? Does it give you a reasonably close address? Does it give you the street corners?

Or does it give you map coordinates which you then have to bust out a map, a compass, and w/ the help of the north star...you end up somewhere much like how Columbus discovered America?

Another question,...do you have a pay a monthly fee or what?

Well, my question really is how many have had their FD stolen? Believe me, i know there's no stopping a determined and experienced car thief but my guess is that very few FD's have ever been stolen. First, there aren't many around so simple statistics suggest it hasn't happned much. Second, due to the low production numbers a chop shop would have zero interest.

^^I agree, that is why the most stolen car of the year is always some economy car, because they are all over, they are easy to re-sell/sell the parts, and they are easy to get away in.

No how hard of a time would a car theif have in selling a PFC & 20B engine? Not to mention it would be hard for a theif to get away because all the ricer boys would be trying to race him the whole getaway.

But really... theifs don't want to steal a car that DRAWS attention to them. Cops always seem to follow me when I'm in the FD... even when I'm being a good little driver.

I never got around to fix my starter solenoid and my worned clutch safty switch. I figured other than my alarm + autolock, all together can be a multi-step anti theft device... valet people and my family members was never able to start my car... so i figure if the theif wants to steal my car, it'll be a long and pain in the *** process. *fingers crossed*
