It may shatter the same, but it's rigidity and tensile strenth are way beyond fiberglass. But yes, if you hit it with a hammer, it would react in much the same way fiberglass does.

And really the only reason to change the hood on the FD is to get some vents, you if you go CF you might as well paint it.

Exactly how much paint do you think it takes to cover a hood?

is there such thing as a vented hood made out of oem metal? i imagine the oem hood absorbs some of the force during a front end collision.

90% of CF hoods are simply CF cloth embedded in fiberglass. The are not any stronger than "fiberglass" hoods. True "CF" would be lighter and stronger than fiberglass. Do an internet search on true "CF" production techniques and you'll understand.

I want the vented hood like on that car but I only know of Pettit racing selling that hood in the fiberglass finish... Simply buy a "CF" hood off of Ebay and have it painted.

yea thats my car, i bought the hood mid summer mainly because i wanted to go with a vented hood to help with engine temps (radiator flow was obstructed by FMIC) anyway i was a little sketchy about c/f i like the clean look also but the way the paint on my car has faded one side is slightly lighter than the other which would mean either i blow good money making the whole car even again or waste a few hundred to get a shitty blended paint that would probably make the car look like a piece

so maybe subconsciously i did like teh idea of a c/f hood, but honestly my big thing was getting a vented hood that would look decent.

thanks for the compliments

This thread should be renamed "Let's all become subjective in thinking a carbon fiber hood looks _________(fill in the blank)".

In all reality, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

MazdaMike, I think your car looks great.
