Who wants R1 trunk carpets?
I'm trying to make some replica R1 trunk carpets and so far I'm about 90% done with whats needed. It seems like I see a WTB thread for these weekly and finding one used is next to impossible. OEM from Malloy is just under $260, which isn't too bad considering what other parts for this car are starting to cost, but its still high enough.
By the end of the week we should have the carpet choice complete. It will be high quality automotive carpet from a company that distributes to original equipment manufactuers, so it will match, if not outperform, the original mazda material. This distributer won't be too cheap but I think its better not to skimp over the material of the actual carpet.
The sides of the carpet will be professionally bound so its not jagged and cheap looking. There will also be padding on the back that will imitate the padding on the oem carpet. I don't know about the five or six holes at the top yet but I'm almost certain they will be cut out for you. Fit and quality should be first class. We will start working on a prototype probably beginning of next week.
The only thing I'm not sure of yet is the initial price. Making this won't be cheap, and I am working with two other people so labor will also be a large factor. It all depends on how many of you want in and what you are willing to pay. I just sent an email to the admin about a possible group buy so if its a go I'll have to get some opinions on value here.
Once we make the first one I'll post some pics so you guys have a feel for what they'll look like. I haven't figured out the actual cost to make these yet but I do have a rough guesstimate, and though its high you have to consider the cost of a brand new one from Mazda. Initial price should be somewhere around $150. But, with enough people that could possibly go down to as low as $100. So how many would be interested?

Sorry guys I thought we had it all together but the carpet choice turned out to be a problem and I had to look for another brand. I have found one but its very thin so it will bend very easy. Because of this I'm now in the process of trying to find a backing for the carpet like the oem has. Its a rubber/vinyl backing but seems like no one knows where to get it around my area. This is what's holding us back.
I'm glad you mentioned this because I made an error in my title. The r1 carpet is the same as the base/non-Bose. So this carpet will fit every FD w/o the Bose wave system in the trunk. You can take the Bose wave thing out if you wanted to and the carpet will fit fine as this is what I did.
Once the materials are all set we will make the first one and I'll post some pics up. Thanks for your support!

Good stuff - this is something that's sorely needed in the FD community, especially for Touring owners who ditch the Bose hose in the back.
Thanks,
