Who uses a turbo timer?

I have heard varying views on whether it is necissary or not.

Does it really help the turbos to last longer on an FD.

Thanks for helpin a noob.

I don't see it's use. Just lay off the throttle a minute or so before shutdown..

I bought my FD with the GReddy T/T already installed. I've got it set so that the engine idles for 60 seconds before automatic shutdown. So it automatically idles engine for turbo cool-down, so you (I) never have to worry about forgeting to do that!

I always use my turbo timer. The best part is people's reaction when you leave the car and walk away and it's still running. They look at you funny. Never mind it always makes me laugh.

IMO, you actually waste time sitting in the car letting it idle for 30 secs. - 1 min. EVERY time you park. For impatient folks like me, who drive hard and like to get out of the car and go, it is a must!

No need to sit in the car for 30 seconds. Just take it easy for the last minute or two. Park it, shut it down, get out and get to where you need to go.

It's one of teh cheaper things you can do, and a lot of the newer TT's give you things like RPM's, Batt. Voltage warning, 1/4 Mile time, Speed, etc... as well as letting your car idle... the PITA isn't the time it's getting an alarm installer to be able to work with it so the alarm ignores the fact that the ignition is still running...

It does its job, and for hot SoCal summers, its important IMO, and, as pointed out before, walking away while its running is cool, and it really throws people off.

I used to use it but I have electronic door locks so when the timer shuts the car off the locks open so I still have to lock the car again, you can wire it so it doesn't do that but I never bothered I just stopped using it all together since I still have to sit and wait for it to shut off.

I think ALL FD's have electronic door locks, since I have yet to see one without... in some the relay may be broken, but I've yet to see oe without pneumatic actuators.... and as I said, it's most likely the alarm that's causing the doors to act weird.... or else you might have it wired wrong, I also have only played with the Greddy one...

its useful for track events, park the car after your session, let the timer do its thing while you're chatting with other drivers or chalk talk or whatever.

it came with my car... i always have it on when i leave the car... it is kind of cool. it also allows the fans to lower the temp of the radiator and the water thats running... since when ur engine is off your only cooling the water in the radiator...

also in the morning when its cold and i want to warm up the car i can just set the turbo timer for whetever time depending on temp and go back inside...

that way i dont have to "take it easy" i can just let it take itself easy...

but i am insane like yanni and i do keep my car at 180 and i dont like to drive until it is warm...

Just remember that if you absolutely need to valet (I would unless there is absolutely no choice), remember to tell the guy you have turbo timer and to not park it in gear. In California, most valet guys know what a turbo timer is, so I just tell them I got a turbo timer.

Does anyone know why some times the site will automatically sign you on as someone else? This has happened to me many times and different computers.

Get one... its cheap and handy for when you need it... and for the days when you arent driving so hard when you are about to park, one push of a button disables it... and its cooler than a push start button! ;-)

A few car alarms actually have a turbo timer built into them. One of the ones with the LCD screen has it. It also has remote start. Kind of nice if you ask me

I think its convient. and I suppose its kinda cool to be able to walk away from your car with the motor on, it does throw people off.
