Turbo Timer, a waste?
Basically I can't afford the turbo's to go so I pretty much drive without boost most of the time.
However, when there is an open road, i like to push the car, and hard.
So basically, the cooldown became an issue.
Should I get a turbo timer, or just save the money and get myself a radiator?

I say get the radiator first. You can cool off the car on yor own, by letting it run for a minute or two when you come to a stop or just drive without boosting for the last couple of miles. It will do the trick.
I agree, but I don't feel like a turbo timer is "worthless", if your time matters to you, and you don't always want to sit in your car while it cools down, then it is a good investment, but the radiator should come first.

do fan-mod. no big rad needed for your driving.
back off load couple minutes before stop with fans on, then they run low for 10 minutes. blows ambient air across hot turbo ***'y mass, can effectively cools 'em.

do fan mod, buy the rad and the turbo timer. i mean a turbo timer is like what, $80??? if you cant afford that you shouldnt be driving an FD 
you should always have spare money reserves in case something goes wrong. thats why FD numbers are dwindeling IMO, ppl cant afford to keep them in shape. not havin a go like i just think you should to both to keep in top condition

I think's it a good mod. When i'm running late for school in the morning and have to get on it a bit. I can just pull in the lot and turn the car off instead of having to wait a couple minutes for it to cool.
Around here on Long Island dealing with this freakin traffic and hot weather, you really do want/need a radiator. I have a Koyo radiator and my temps have not yet passed 99C when stuck on 495/Northern State in a dead stop in August heat. Engine is cheaper than turbos. A basic turbo rebuild from BNR is ~$750. A motor is $2,000++.

The thing is, I know im not going to be boosting while driving around, but I know one day I am going to be late for school and I don't want to sit around in the car for another 2 mins before I can run to class.
But you know what, you are right, I don't think its really necessary and I might as well save the money for gas.

I have always said that a turbo timer is a waste of time, space, money.....etc. I just saw a thread where several people had problems with them malfunctioning....not shutting off. Just another reason not to buy one!!
A turbo timer would be a very bad thing around here. When you come to a stop and keep the car running the temps climb, not cool off. Just not boosting for the last couple minutes is infinately better than idling and causing more heat soak than is necessary under the hood.

i like to treat my car as an actual car, not something that must be babied and not driven normally, sometimes i wonder if people become over-protective due to what could happen. just drive it and treat it nice
What you basically want to do, is to keep the oil flowing through the turbos, to cool them off. If you shut the car turbos are chewing up the oil and you're effiectively destroying them. I have my first set on 130.000km and they seem fine.

In reality there is very little you have to do to keep them running well. I will often be in boost as late as 30 seconds before I shut the car off, my boosting limit is about a block away from my driveway. My turbos are still running strong at well over 140k miles. Water cooled turbos dont have the oil coking problems that strictly oil cooled turbos have.

Our turbos are water cooled, dont worry about the turbos. Just drive the car and dont worry about it. Know that if the turbos go bad a timer wouldnt have prevent it.
The main reasons for turbo failure are....
1. Throwing a apex seal thru them
2. Running to much boost (like 15psi+ all the time)
3. Having a boost leak so your turbos are maxing out to maintain pressure
A turbo timer will help with NONE of these. Put that money toward something else
