Who is useing a borla XR1 in place of the main cat?

I was just wondering a few things.

How does it sound compared to the stock cat? Alot louder? Alittle louder?

How well does it flow compared to a high-flow cat or a MP?

What size do i need to buy?

Thanks

I am using a Borla in the Mid-pipe: It's the 12" 3 chamber one.
It's pretty good at idle... engine just purrs... At WOT it's a little
loud. Only with the windows down. Quiet when the windows are up.
My cat back is a Blitz stainless as well. Good luck if you have the Apex catback. You'll need it...
If you wanted slightly better performance get the single chamber
from Borla.
These Borla's have excellent performance and are not quite as
quiet as a high flow cat.
You have to ask yourself? More power w/more noise?
or: More Quiet w/less power
Best wishes either way...

How loud is it comparaed to a stock cat? I'm currently have a DP and the cat-back as my only exhaust mods and I'm trying to keep it as close to this volume level as possible. I'll probably end up getting the xr1 either way since I don't want to pay $350+ for a resonated MP or a high-flow cat. Have you had any problems with cops while running the xr1?

I was also wondering how does the xr1 hold up to the heat of the exhaust?

I have been using a Borla XR-1 silencer for about a year. (16 inch oval).

It made a huge difference in noise when compared to just a mid-pipe. (also have DP and Apex N1 Duals) At idle the car sounds like an outboard motor boat (just as loud also), crusing the car is not too bad, but you do notice it with the windows down. At WOT it sounds like a race car and is as loud as a Harley Davidson with straight pipes. My friends have said they can hear me from literally miles away.

The cops have never bothered me about the noise, but I have had warnings about the flames.

Mike

I had a midpipe and it was like posted earlier - an outboard motorboat at idle and a Harley with straight pipes at WOT. This is really weird - I just told someone this same exact thing about what the car sounded like with the midpipe - anyway I couldn't take the smell and deafening exhaust note so I went to Meineke - yes, Meineke and had them weld on a hi-flo cat in my midpipe - only cost me $169 installed! It sounds like a Porsche now - awesome exhaust and much more low end grunt. With the midpipe I only noticed a difference over 6K rpms but with the hi-flo there was much more power below 6K - I'd rather have more power up to that and quieter exhaust note - just my 2 cents

$169? Was that to put on the high flow or was it for everything? Can you shoot flames with a hi-flow?

Nope. You need the open exhaust, which is noisy and loud as hell, if you wanna shoot flames. Gotta take the good with the bad (and I like the noise and stink )

Actually I bought a R.T. hi-flo cat used off partstrader. I installed it a few months later (getting new engine put in at the time I bought it) I found out that it had been gutted so it was basically a midpipe. So if you get a mipipe used for like $100-125 and go to Meineke they'll weld their hi-flo in your midpipe for $169 so for less than $300 you can have a hi-flo cat installed - not bad
