I like the stock look or Bodykts that do not make the car too ricey!
Well, if you are only going to spend $5k, that will only get you the motor. So I think the 3-Rotor is a little out of your reach.

400RWHP from a 13B is != (not equal) to a 400RWHP 20B, the 20B will have WAY more low end torque. Notice he is doing SOLOII, I bet that even 400HP is really hard to control on small AutoX courses, hell I steer with the throttle with only about 300 and running A032R's! I saw the car at SevenStock when it had the cantilever suspension, pretty damn cool but who know how good it actually was at racing, or perhaps it was not allowed in the Solo2 rules.

the article says he built the car for road racing. I would like to see a graph, on that motor I bet it pulls like hell from 1000rpm. as you guys probally know road racing is about no turbo lag, and flat liner curves, not the huge peak output that it takes to be a contender on the strip. I do agree, that 400whrp is week for 40grand. That front end has a little it of FC look to it. mabey thats just me?

You can get a complete 20b swap, labor and running for around 25k if you want to be different. Call MVA Motorsports and see for yourself...(201)488-5111

I'm sorry I like Cam but that is not a car that I would want to represent the level or quality of work he can put toghether. He just put together a CYM Widebody 3 rotor that is unreal. That 3rd gen on the cover of Turbo I think is a complete embarassment to the RX7 community. I'm sorry when I saw the cover I was like cool as I started reading the article I was thinking...what a waist of a 3 rotor conversion.

Breakdown

pro
3 rotor conversion
3rd gen

con snap on widebody kit
cheesy body kit
cheesy paint scheme
garbage seats
garbage ecu
rice tail
Not enough horsepower for 40K

The whole point of going 3 rotor is to break out of the 450 hp limitation... that is pretty but a waist of money as far as the drivetrain is concerned. There are a few 3 rotor FD's over here in Japan pushing 750 to 850 rwhp. I actually touched one... I tried to own one but then realized how poor I actually was when I seriously started looking at the costs involved in getting over the 700hp hump.

...as for the low end torque... for $40g's you can keep that ****. I had a stock 3rotor Cosmo and the torque was nessasary because it weighed the same as a 67 Cadilac. On a fd that torque would slip and slide your *** all over accomplishing nada.

Argh. The damn Efini logo is still upside down.

The car looks much better without those gaudy *** painted rims it had before.

hOW MUCH dOES That engine Weight??? If i would do the swap I would be interested in knowing the weight ratio. I wouldnt spend $40Gs on Pettit doing all my mods though. I would just get the engine and do all the mods myself. It takes all the fun out playing around with your 7.
How much horsepower can you get out of that engine, ho wmuch torque and how much will it weight, Anybody???

lol, there is more money than just the engine that you will have to shell out. You are still probably looking at least an extra $10k after purchasing the engine let alone the work involved getting it in the car.

Looks like the extra $10k over the engine was probably conservative, check this thread about FC owners doing the conversion:

Then go ahead and plan on modding your 13B. A 20B conversion doesn't cost $40K for nothing. There is a LOT of fabrication that goes into this.

Something as simple as... The transmission must be moved backwards to make room for the longer block. I don't know about you, but I don't have the resources or time to completely modify the interior of my car and keep it looking good.

You may want to give Peter Farrell a call as well, as he has been known to do 3-rotor conversions. Call and talk to him or Cam and just ask them what the steps are in doing this modification. $5,000 won't get you there, that much I can guarantee.

I saw the Area 51 20b guy run at Palmdale and man was i embarrassed for him. He only ran a 14.1 sec 1/4 mile. Damn, a stock FD could do that. I understand the low boost for reliability but hell with that if you're that slow. I was all hyped up and thought he'd pull a 11 second pass or something. My cuz's laughed at me and said rotary blows. Damn Pettit, if that's all for show then screw it.

Are you guys crazy??? Did any of you guys that are complaining about the rwhp happen to read the entire article to see what boost level that was at???

HaHa, maybe you should consider what it would be like to pull out of a sharp turn with a super light striped car and 500rwhp. I'm sure he wanted it to be around that. 400rwhp with the light weight of that car would be good for 10's in the 1/4

As for the 14.1 time posted above I'm sure it was traction related considering you would need slicks to keep traction on a car like that.
