I have put together a chart and I think I can get down to give or take 2450 legally in SM2. It will be tuff buy I am already working on it.

My last item if I really have to will be the single turbo due to weight savings.

I cannot list everything I will be doing due to my competitors also read my posts.

Thanks for all your help guys and I am looking at this everyday.

Awww c'mon Allan. Share and share alike! 2450lbs will be stretching things that are possible in SM2. For the size wheels that you have already, you are not going to save much weight there without spending cubic dollars. Ditto on some othe things like the motor (aluminum side housings, etc.).

Adding big brakes, wheels and a cage will add to that.

i got my 87 gti down to 1800 lbs and it was legal!!!! but that is off topic. Make sure you balance youor weight too. a 2500 lb unbalanced beast will not handle as well as a perrfectly balanced 3000 lb car.

If this is strictly a race car and not driven on the street, you might look into removing all the locks, including the one on the steering column, they're hardened steel and pretty massive despite their small size.

Ditch the factory seat belts (most of the weight is in the inertia reels), if you're not already using a harness with lightweight buckles (Schroth claims theirs is the lightest due to the materials they use for the adjusters, you might want to investigate this for yourself) you can save a good 2-3 lbs by switching harnesses.

You can save a lot of weight by going with a lightweight battery and fixed (non-adjustable) seat brackets. Also the heater core, I believe it's legal to remove it also. When you remove your A/C, get rid of the parts under the dash including the electric fan (again assuming this is a race car not needing creature comforts).

If you're going to be adding a roll cage, think about the diameter and thickness of the tubes, a roll cage is a lot of tubing, assuming you're autocrossing only, you don't need a ton of crash protection, and the cage is a lot of weight up top. Keep it as light as possible (probably mandated by the rules) and don't add any unnecessary bars.

ONe of the fastest cars in my area (auto-xing wise) is a 1590lb 84 GTI. He doesn't have much HP but he doesn't need it.

Sure it is. From the rules:

valvevetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:
Engine must be from the same manufacturer as the body (Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Datsun, Honda/Acura, etc.) Badges that exist as marketing aliases for the manufacturer (Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Datsun) will be recognized as equivalents. Swaps involving makes related only at corporate level (e.g. Ford/Volvo, Renault/Nissan, Chrysler/Mercedes) are not recognized as equivalents. Models produced as a joint venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from any partners in the joint venture, provided that an engine from the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that particular model (e.g. Eagle Talon available originally with either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor from Chrysler or Mitsubishi).

As for lightening the car keep in mind that SM2 does not allow non-stock doors or rear hatches:

The firewall, roof, doors, rear quarter panels, floor pan, trunk lid (if any) or rear hatch (if any) must remain stock. Holes may be drilled to allow attachment of body kits, etc. This specifically allows replacement hoods, fenders, wings, front & rear fascias, side skirts, and fender flares as per Section 14.

Thanks Damon,

I don't know what class I was thinking of, maybe Prepared, allows only the same number of turbos as orginally produced with but does not require the exact same configuration.
