Who here has replaced their FPR and/or solenoid valve?

I'm having a problem with hot starts. Have to push the gas all the way in to get the engine to fire, and then apply some gas to keep it from stalling (for about 60 seconds) then everything runs fine.

All the threads that I've dug up on the forum have pointed to either the FPR or the control solenoid for it. The Mazda manual also points to the (PRC) solenoid.

I'm just wondering who here has actually had a hot start problem and what the cause ended up being. Also, is there any way to test either the FPR or the solenoid to see if they are bad? I called Mazda today and each one costs about $180 - so I'd hate to replace one and have it not be the problem.

Thanks,
-Charlie

pull the vac line to the fpr and see if it has fuel in it. if it does it is bad. also during hot start if the solenoid is working correctly you will NOT have any vac on the line. that said youu may have another prob...

I had the same symptoms and it was the FPR. The diaphragm was bad and was allowing fuel to leak back down the line, causing way too rich idle and bad hot-starting.

So does fuel in the line indicate that the FPR or the solenoid valve is bad?

The FPR is bad. There is a diaphragm in the FPR that keeps fuel from leaking back up the vacuum line. It goes bad.

So what about the control solenoid? Has anyone had to replace one of these? Any way to test it? The Mazda service manual points to it as the cause of hot start problems.

T into it and drive the car get it hot and shut it off. try and restart it if there is vac on the line during the inital start up the solenoid is not functiong properly. then you need to see if the fuel temp sensor is working correctly also..

You can run the FPR w/o the solenoid, (I'm running w/o it for ever w/no problems) most likely the FPR is bad.
