Who has experience with Liberty Gears Main Shaft?

There's lots of chatter scattered around the forum about Liberty Gears products but I haven't seen much hard feedback based on personal experience.

While debate continues, it seems pretty well established, at least when it comes to track driving, that at 400+WHP it's not a question of if your transmission will give out, but when. It also seems pretty well established that flex between the main shaft and third is generally the source of the breaking point. Who here has tried the main shaft offered by Liberty Gears and can offer feedback on how well their transmission has held up since performing the swap?

I'm not suggesting it's a panacea. But for a modest investment, it could be good preventative reinforcement if going in for a transmission rebuild anyway and I'm hoping some members here can share feedback that either supports this or reveals it's not what its cracked up to be.

I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but it's going in to my rebuild. The better metallurgy should help, So its sort of a no brainer if you're opening the box.

Heat can also be a contributing factor, so a dedicated cooler and deeper pan are happening too.

I use 2 transmissions. One for the track and one for street/track and they both have the liberty's mainshaft.
The track tranny is a straightcut all chromoly and the street/track version uses all oem components except the mainshaft. I am pushing 30psi on the efr8374 and i am not "gentle" with the car
The 3rd gear failure is due to the flexing of the shaft at its weakest point, the middle of the shaft. Switching to that mainshaft my gearbox still runs well after 5 years of a lot of abuse whereas it would last only a few weeks with the stock main shaft.

I do have a third shaft as my backup which i want to sell in case you were interested

Marco (thewird) in the past had switched from stock to liberty's mainshaft on his 20b and it lasted way longer than the stock but he can tell you more about that

What’s the availability and price of the main shaft. I thought they had issues with order times off memory

Thanks guys!

@ptrhahn , I'll be on the lookout here or in your build thread for more impressions once you've got your car back.

@R-R-Rx7 , exactly what I was looking for. I'm convinced.

I spoke with Liberty again today and they've got a pallet of 40 shafts that need minor finishing work before they're ready to sell. Should be next week or the week after that they're ready and the price is $500. I'll be buying one once this next batch is ready to go.

Post back when you're able to buy one from them. for $500 I'd be interested in one and I'm one state away so shipping should be easy.

How quickly can you replace your transmission, and how often do you do it? Just curious.

Not OP, but with air tools and a lift I can swap a trans out in 2 hours. Especially if it's an aftermarket exhaust with bolts that are in good shape.

I havent timed it but 2-3 hours sounds reasonable using the lift.
I haven't done it in a while due to some spinal issues but i hope i will be able to do it soon
