Who are you? You cannnot just ask a question who makes the "best" rebuild kit. "Best" is something that can be defined diffently by different people. If you wanted the best for a high performance engine I would like someone to come tell me that Ianetti seals, with new Cemeted housings would not be the best (of course including full set of OEM gaskets upgraded where it would be usefull).

However, for some best would be cheapest and for others best would be having a certain quality price ratio that meets their personal preferences.

So, if you would like an accurate answer to your question describe your predicament and state specificaly what you wish to know.

I recommend you stick with mazda oem engine internals. Call up Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda and explain exactly what you need. He gives rx7club discounts and ships free, his # is 888 533 3400.

Ok, I’m sorry for being so vague. All I was looking for is personal opinions from experience. I’m a chevy guy and have built several engine in the past so I’m feeling quite confidant that with patients I can rebuild my rotary. Naturally oem should be the best, but I know of many aftermarket parts that have been re-designed to out perform factory. And by the way I believe I said I don't want to do it again anytime soon, so naturally most would assume that means the BEST quality. Thanks for the help guys.

This isn't like a piston engine where the aftermarket parts really are better than OEM....I would use all OEM seals. Most likely you will also need new rotor housings, depending on the mileage of the motor and how it blew.

No offense, but if this is your first experience with rebuilding a rotary, I wouldn't expect a 100k mile lifespan.....

Ottoman, can you confirm if your apex seals are the 2 piece or 1 piece ones?

when I unwrapped them.. they appear to be 1 piece... upon close examination.. u can see the hairline of the corner seal...

but it seems like it takes alot of effort to break the to apart... i dropped a seal on concrete.. it didn't come off... i also put the rotor in and turned it a few times to make sure everything was ok.. even then they didn't break lose...

i don't know if that signifies it's 1 piece.. or just a very stuck 2 piece..

if u need pics i can go take some when i get a chance

So let me get the right. In your infinite wisdon the previous posts, which exactly responded to what the original poster was looking for make us "suck"? So by answering a question people on the forum "suck"?

Also you use the term "our" when it comes to experience with "these cars" yet you say you are about to blow yours up? Seems like those are two contradictions to me!

Finally, if you need advice post it. According to my eyes you don't seem to be the original poster. What in all that's holy does "do it for the rotary mean"?

What more can we do list all the OEM part numbers for you?

oh! haha, I didn't even see that door handle in there the first time....I even starred at it and was like wtf, there isn't a door handle there. Man, sometimes I think I'm losing it.

So you all are saying that the OEM apex seals are better than 3mm? That doesn't make sense to me.

Whether or not 3mm seals are better than 2mm depends on what is expected of the engine. The consensus (from what I can tell) is that unless you're going to push a lot of power (arbitrary #: 400+hp) then you don't need the thicker seal. Why? The idea behind the 3mm seal is to give some margin (again, this is my understanding) for tuning (knocking). If you're pushing that much power you probably want more margin for other reasons too, like if you get a crappy tank of gas or one of your injectors gets stuck, etc...

In all seriousness though, the "which seal is better" debate is based on anecdotal information and I have yet to see anyone give some hard numbers or other data to substantiate their claims. I would tend to feel that OEM seals are "better" (i.e. seals the chambers well under various conditions = good compression, for close to stock power) because I would *like* to believe that Mazda has a lot more engineering effort and quality control in place than the aftermarket.

The coner seal is glued on when manufactured. It breaks off and seats during assembly. Buy a rebuild video from RA. I heard mine seat during the main bolt torque sequence. But the video says most likely they will pop or seat when the engine is first rotated.

3mm vs 2mm has nothing to do with it....Mazda makes 3mm seals too!!! My rebuild has Mazda 3mm seals in it....this requires careful machining of the rotors to accept the wider seals.

The fact of the matter is that 2mm seals provide a better seal and therefore you can get more power out of them. 3mm seals are 50% harder so people are willing to sacrifice a minimal decrease in power for a sense of security. This is why most of the Pacific side tuners with experience stick with the 2mm size. Mazda makes up to 5 or 7 mm apex seals I cannot remember.
