Who drives their FD daily?
J/w from my understanding a FD is a fussy car but hoping to get one soon but i plan on dailying it. But babying it along the way getting most if not all the usual reliability upgrades. I only plan on driving 100-150miles or less a week. So im juss wondering what experiences people have had doing so and how many miles anyone has dailyed it

I drive mine everyday, besides the ocasional dead battery (I leave something on), thats about it motor wise. While the suspension sure could use some revival.

I drive mine daily...do the shopping in it..drive to work., take it to track days, car club cruises , and recently drove 3800kms (prob 2000miles?)...
apart from getting a sore back from the long trip (Lowered suspension on 18's..) it has not missed a beat.
My baby also frequently see's the high side of 7000rpm (Generally daily) and currently has about 120,000kms on it. (80,000 miles I guess?)
I only use 98 octane fuel, and the car has no mods as yet.
I really don't understand how they got their unreliable name? The australian cars seem to be very reliable (Except for the vacuum hoses over age..). Maybe its because we drive on the correct side of the road??

The FD is like almost any other "exotic" sports car. They are reliable if you are willing to spend money on preventative maintenance and you monitor things closely. To give an example, if I heard an odd noise from my Toyota Camry I'd ignore it for a month at least to see if it went away, I'd change the oil 'when I got around to it' (somewhere between 5-10k normally, once I went 22k just to see how far you could go, you start to notice a sluggish performance drop after 15k or so) running the cheapest fossil oils I could find ($9.95 oil change coupon anyone?). Spark plugs -- 50k miles if they were lucky probably more like 70k, fuel filter -- what do you have to change those? I put 140k miles on it and it still ran "just fine". Try that in a FD and you won't have a car very long. You'll have a 2850lb couch in your garage.

I drive mine daily and i usually put about 75+ miles on it every day. I even drive it during the winter on the nicer days. It's held up pretty good the past couple years. I got about all the bolt ons and all the reliability mods too. She has developed a problem recently that i'm getting fixed next week though. It's never died on me while i was out and about.

Mine's my daily driver. Hasn't missed a beat yet, and I've been enjoying the hell out of it. There's a few times where I'd like to have a spare car so I could, say, send a part on the car off to be worked on or something. But, I fell into the trap of having a separate daily driver with my old TII - "well, while it's down I might as well do this, and this, and this, and this, and...." Turned into sitting in the garage for 2 years . I was so happy the day I sold that thing!

I drive my pretty heavily modded black FD pretty much every day in the spring through fall (except nasty weather of course) and it gives me no problems. Of course, I don't drive like an idiot so that maight have something to do with it. My only complaint is how damn hot I get with my non-functional A/C on the really steamy summer days in slow traffic, lol.

I drive mine daily for the past 2+ years, and lately I have been driving over 80 miles a day with no problems, just make sure you let it warm up completely before you drive and do the regular maintenance.

the list goes on and on and on and on...... please don't add to it . search on "daily" and you'll get the answer that are looking for.
on a side note - 2.5 years of daily driving here. I don't even want any other car as it has been very reliable. take care of it and it will be reliable, don't and you'll hate the car.

NYC's Loudest FD
Drove it all the time, then the winter came, here in NY it's not a good idea to drive an FD in the winter as your only car due to the snow, if you live in a warm climate, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I am so glad to see other people driving their car daily. For the last 3 years I have another car as a daily driver. But I want to enjoy my car more so 2 weeks ago I sold my other car and drive the FD (200 miles a week) daily now.

I have daily driven mine over 4 years now. Put about 55k on it in that time and have taken several 1000-2000 mile road trips with it. Now the FD is on the verge of breaking 100k miles. Suspension is tight, because I just did all the pillow ball bushings and toe links. Nice smooth turbos, just replaced them with a 5000 mile set 2 months ago. Runs great, get a few puffs of smoke on startup but nothing too out of the ordinary for a 55k mile motor. Now have 300HP to the wheels and things are better than ever.
I do have a rotary pick-up and a motorcycle for back-up. The motorcycle is down right now due to brake issues and the truck gets driven mostly just to haul bicycles and car parts. Definately a good idea with the FD to have something available just in case, but really over the last 4 years I have only had to drive the back-ups a total of 4 weeks. Not bad for the performamce you get with the 7.

Daily Driven
I drive my FD daily as well. Picked it up with 90k miles on the motor and blew the motor within the first month I had it. That's the second rx7 I have destroyed! I had a 2nd gen that caught fire and burned down to the ground. Anyhow I needed a new car but at this point I didn't know much about the 3rd gen except that It caught my eye like nothing else. So I threw in loads more money, a rebuilt motor from tripoint, and tons of reliability mods and now she's back and believe me... I no longer drive it like a maniac while daily driving. I get on the boost once or twice each day and sometimes not at all. Before my last oil change last week, I thought to myself (finally) the car is running great! Except for the engine light that just turned on for a sec or two then was gone. After the oild change was done, and the mechanic checked out the engine light which was flashing an 11. Now it turns out that another grand is what's needed to bring her back again even though she is currently still driving great! I WILL do the repairs but damnit I must save up again.
