I DD'd my FD for about the first year I owned it. I even drove it during the Vegas summer (Looking back, that was kinda stupid.) But I had no problems with it. I don't think I'd do it again though.

When the weather isn't bad... I bought it to drive, not to sit.

Drove it 10,000 miles on a bad motor and pulled it down before something serious happened. Did all the reliability mods and built a new engine myself. Not one issue to speak of.

Complaints are bad gas mileage, but overall it has been a great project. I would do it again.

I've been dd'ing my 7 for almost a year, since I moved down to Texas (could only bring one vehicle with me)... even after I drove it 1,900 miles to get down here!!

After about 3 months, the O2 sensor started flaking out and I had to replace it. But it was probably the original one anyway cuz I had never changed it out since I bought the car.

After 6 months, a coolant hose ruptured. Luckily, it was in a parking lot and I noticed it right away. Again, it was probably the original coolant hose, and should've been replaced anyway.

After about 10 months, the undertray somehow came loose and was ripped half apart!! Oh well. Still don't have a replacement.

Now, a year later, I've developed an oil pan leak. But I'm gonna reseal the oil pan and install the GR oil pan brace this weekend, so that should get fixed. That's really about it. I've been very adamant about performing all the routine maintenance (except the O2 sensor obviously), and I don't try to race it from stop light to stop light. Don't get me wrong, I've had many other problems with my 7, but those were caused by me.

Seriously....there are about 6 dozen threads over the years where someone is crowing about how their FD is just running SO good and is their daily driver and they can't understand why some people think they are fragile and BOOM! Their car blows an engine.

Ha! I thought that then my cat melted and blew apart under boost and spiked me to 18psi in an instant. The car went really effin fast and then I hear an audible pop and saw smoke and debris fly out of my exhaust!

Then at the first stop the car stalled and I decided to by an FC.

I had an 01 Chevy Blazer when I bought mine. I now drive my 7 more than I drive the Blazer. Fuel-wise it makes more sense, plus I'd rather be driving the 7 than a Blazer with bad alignment, ABS issues, etc. I'll never buy a chevy again.

For those that complain about the Rx7's reliability.... just let em see your odometer and tell them (honestly) what mileage is on the engine. Take em for a spin, and then down the road, when you've put another 20k-80k on the engine, remind them of the mileage when you took them for the spin.

Mine has 87k on the odo and was rebuilt at 70k. I've had some issues with boost, but they were all easy to find. The radiator was upgraded, and I have a leak in the filler neck of the coolant tank, but I wouldn't call that major since coolant should rarely be in it. I've down a downpipe and vac job, and currently have exhaust leaks. I think one is because the dp sucks, and the rest are because I can see pin holes in the muffler. Other than that, the thing has been rock solid. Even with the leaks, I can still pull harder than I expected the car would.

After I did the vac job, found a few wrong lines, removed the pre-cat, etc.... the car feels like a whole new beast. All you need to do is find a car that HASN'T been modded (if you're worried about reliability), and then take the car and do a few minor things to make sure you have a solid car. The FAQ will be your best resource once you decide if you want to go FD or if you wanna go with a car that doesn't require as much maintenance (ala Civic).

Slow on uptake... thought "dd" meant "drydock," until reading responses! We are original owners.. our '94 has been driven daily since new. Under warranty there were a few EGR valve replacements, finally an intake manifold gasket replacement. Also the water pump leaked; fixed under warranty. Pillow ***** replaced at around 70 K miles. Now at 89 K+ miles; preventive mods I did fairly recently were replacement of all vacuum hoses with Viton, and replacement of pre-cat with Bonez DP. Everything else is stock. Tomorrow is DIY coolant system flush day.

Our '94 for your '93? What a deal! Does sound lke our cars have a similar history, though... except we are on the original engine.

See... I have a fresh engine! That should sweeten the deal right?

Grats on being the original on the car, but I still can't understand how the key has only hit the ignition that many times! I've driven mine on days where I could've easily taken the Blazer.... but I just enjoy the 7 way too much.
