white coating on exhaust tip?
hey guys, while i was driving to work this morning i decided to mess with my timing a little bit. heres the reason. haha. . . ive been having a lot of high knock readings and high engine temps. i know my mix is rich. . . cause im killing spark plugs way too often. . . 6 changes within 2kmiles. so anyways, i retarded the timing on the interstate. it didnt necessarilly like that. . . lotsa hesitation and all the such. . . so i brought it back up to where its been. . . oh, and the knock readings werent going anywhere towards normal (i.e. i get readings of 140 and all the such on my pfc commander). i got to work and was looking my car over (as usual) and noticed a white film on the exhaust tip. i would assume that would mean that it was really hot. . . wouldnt that mean too much advance? im confused as to why i cant get knock readings down and hesitation to go away and all that jazz.
thanks,
paul

What exhaust are you running? I ask because before I sold my N1, the color inside the tip where it necks down would be a very light-gray to whiteish color, with black soot around the rim of the tip. It had been noted by other N1 owners as well and I took it to be normal. Now that I've got a RB dual tip on it, it's nice and dark.
Could it be that you just hadn't noticed before?

White normally means there is lots of raw gas making it out the tailpipe. When my motor blew I drove it 15 miles home and all the fuel from the rear rotor was going right out the exhaust. The inside of the pipe had a chalky white film, but man weren't the insides of my pipes clean!
