havent broken one yet *knocks on wood*

how exactly does an engine pop in your driveway? Maybe you got knock while coming home and didnt notice? or maybe the car overheated in your driveway? Someone please shed some light on this for me

I had installed pulleys, FMIC, intake and new plugs over the winter. The first time I fired it up and backed it out it ran like *** and got progressively worse. Something knocked out a rear seal, maybe bad gas.. who knows.

what would you guys say is the cause of the random pops? fuel lean? boost spike? too much timing? Or do the seals just randomly go sometimes?

Racing up a long uphill onramp with a 1/4 tank of gas and a motor with 128,000 on it. Stupid Huh. It was late at night. I put it into a nice four wheel drift turning right onto the ramp stabbed the gas the rest of the way as she was striating out, got a real sweet bark going into second my adrenalin pumping I hit third hard and fast shooting for a nice chirp instead I got a big BANG that rattled the dash. I pulled over with the motor dead and looked back for parts or a oil streak from where she came to a rest. Nothing. I know if it was a V8 from the sound it made it would have been a V7 at that point. God I Love This Car!

Oh wow, where to begin. LOL...... Mostly when taking a friend a ride in the car the seals go in mine. LOL.....
Mazda's remans. Some good quality there.
Actually Edit..... not bad quality until you start pushing the performance envelope on them.

Same as above for my FD. The onramps in so cal are killers!!! I was getting on at San Padre when mine went kerpopp!!. Started smoking ever since. Rear rotor apex seals. The FC was at a stoplight. Started pulling away. At around 4k rpm the water seal let go and popped off my heater hose on the drivers side. Dumped ALL the coolant in the road and i said **** it!! Has 125k+ on it anyways and drove home 5 more miles. Thank you Atkins!! Haha!!

i put down racing, but i was actually just goin for a top-end pull on the highway with just me and a friend in the car. i started at around 60mph in 5th and just rolled into it. it ended up lettin go at 150mph. should have known better than to do a hard 5th pull on stock intercooler. oh well, lessons learned. the only time i've hit 150 since then has been on the dyno!

im glad i havent popped my motor yet. i got the skip anti det. device, so im hoping it doesnt. im guessing with the t78 on there, if it doesnt blow the apex seal like skip said it wont, it will prolly wear out the internals first.

Man, we should be able to vote twice or more on this poll

Both times on the freeway, near the top of 4th gear.

Both times won the 1st race, then blew up on the 2nd race. 1st against a S/C Cobra, 2nd time against a modded C5.

I was on my way home from Infineon Raceway after they kicked us all out because of the wind. I didn't even get to run my car! I guess I would have blown it on the strip for sure otherwise.

Is anyone familiar with the J&S knock sensor and how effective it is? Wonder if it helps.
