Where to take RPM signal from in engine bay

So after screwing around with repairing/replacing tachos and still having a tacho which has a fit every few minutes, I want to fit a Speedhut 8k rpm tacho.

So I want to hook it up directly to an RPM source in the engine bay, what can I tap?

I'll be fitting an Adaptronic plugin at some point soon if that makes a difference.

Also, if I replace the tacho, do I still retain the beep?

You can get the tach signal from the Diagnostics connector or pin 2B on the ECU which is routed to the same connector
