Where to start?
Once again, I have lived up to my name. Last week while running the car hard on track, I lost all electrical. Moments after coming to a stop it overheated from heat soak. A little later we got the car going and it seemed ok. I went out for a couple of real easy laps and midway through the 2nd lap I lost power and started smoking(oil) real bad. The car will start up and run fine (no real power) except for the smoke. I don't have a boost guage to see what might be happening there.
This will be my first time digging into a turbo so I don't really know what I'll be looking for. I'm thinking/hoping the seals are done in the turbo and that's it. I fear I may be dreaming though.
What should I be looking for once the turbo is off. Is there anything I could do that tells me the motor is ok (only 8k on it).
If it is just the turbo should I go new or rebuilt(mine if possible).
The only mod on the car is a straight downpipe and cat-back exhaust. I plan on doing some relatively minor mods (intake and cooling) in the future mostly for track reliability.
Also, I am an hour plus north of Toronto and need to find a rx7 guru(shop) somewhere in this neck of the woods.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
