I'm pretty sure he is an american, or asian ancestory... the point i was making is that international businesses like car companies operate above such distinctions.

At one point of the development, I was told by engineering that an outlet for the engine room was not necessary and we had to take this feature off the clay model.

If they had only known what kind of heat problems we would have...

I said bordering on being racist, by the way. The comment was not intended to be derogatory, I assumed, but could have been offensive to someone of that race. Referring to someone as a "Chinese guy" could easily be offensive.

Think about it... if you're able.
It took me a long time to decide if I was able to think about. Thanks for the helpfull hint.

Chinese people are proud of their heritage. I have spend a lot of time around Chinese people. One Chinese family in particular are among my closest friends. They treat me like family even though I am not Chinese. There is no way that any of the Chinese men would be offended by being called a "Chinese guy". They are proud to be Chinese. To think differently is ridiculous.

Maybe you should think about it.

Huy gee (misspelled Chinese)....... look it up

You can tell that americans designed it....... look at the ford probe. Everytime I see a probe coming towards me, I think it's a RX7. I know I'm not the only one.

The front of the 2nd gen Probe looks similar to a BMW 8 series to me.

The front part of your avatar looks like the front-end of a 1973 PeterBilt Conventional Cab.

You are not the only one. The other day, a red FD was coming toward me on the other side of the freeway. I thought it must be a Probe, as I never see FD's around here. I was surprised when it turned out to be an FD

They defintley fixed it up nice. Our car could have looked like something from the jetsons.
The 3rd pic down with the rear wheels covered looks like a dragster. all it needs is the wheelie bar.

"Anyone ever heard of the mazda DISC-II rotary. (direct injection stratified charge) It has a pretty cool looking rotor and some neat economic advances."

A stratified charge rotary!!??? I would be intrested in learning more about that, was it 6-port? Power might not be so good, but the fuel economy and emissions must be way better.

i went there, grad TRANS 97.

bah going back, i wanted to clear some stuff up. there are 4 major places designers go to school.

US west coast, US detroit/midwest, England, Germany. there is a scholo in Korea, but people go there first so that they can get into the schools in the US. in my graduatuing class there were only 3 US students. if i remember right, it was 8 koreans, 3 french, 1 luxembourg, 1 japanese, 1 turkish, 2 germans, 3 US

so most car designed today are based on American taught designers.

Nicely twisted to a context that suits you. Unfortunately, that was not the implication ..... but you already know that. How about putting it in the context that was originally stated:

"Thats right designed by a ___________ guy" Fill in the blank. Chinese, White, Black, Japanese, Hawaiian, German ........... it doesn't matter. It wasn't racist or derogatory. Would you have felt insulted if this referred to your nationality or ethnic background?

i could care less what race someone is. but you have to admit that color is one of the easiest ways to identify someone.

and we all know about the reputation of non-japanese asian cars...

btw - my parents are from taiwan.

anyway i just saw the rx-01 top gear video. that and the prototype pictures of the FD scare me A LOT. i really do hope if they make an FE, that its not disgusting.

I read "that's right" to give emphasis to the rest of the sentence to say, "Yeah, that's right, designed by a Chinese guy!", and myself took it to mean he was implying some sort of superiority. Maybe that's not what "blueskaterboy" was trying to convey, and then again, maybe he was, and I can understand how someone may have found the post offensive. All semantics and interpretation, and maybe a poor choice of words. My $.02.

The articles that were linked to supplied the designer's NAME. From that point on, it would have been appropriate to refer to him BY NAME. There was no need to make ANY comment about his RACE after that point. The only appropriate statement mentioning his race would have been something like "Wow, isn't it ironic that the designer of the FD was Chinese?"

That's a statement which has no negative connotations regarding race. It can't be misunderstood or misinterpreted. The use of "Chinese guy" is insulting and demeaning. To me it says "he wasn't important enough to refer to by name, so I'm just going to use an ambiguous descriptor like race".

Regardless, this debate is over. I really don't expect you to understand, so why don't you spend another 100 hours analyzing your intake or something, you "Ram Air guy".

To me, there aren't any cars that look like a 3rd gen FD. Although, the body of the current Miata and front of the C5 have some slight resemblance. Would be cool if the 3rd gen FD designer, designed the next gen FD. Wonder if it will be an evolution of the 3rd gen or if he would go with a new design altogether?

I also mistake probe's for fd's and fd's for probes!

I have always found it interesting where cars were designed and by whom. Many British roadsters in the 60's and 70's were designed by Italians or Germans. Go figure...

And I didn't pick up any racism from "Chinese guy".

The point that he was making was that the guy was Chinese. That surprised him. To have used the designers name would not have reflected what he wanted to say. Making a comment that includes someones race cannot be assumed to be racist. It certainly wasn't in this case.

Maybe the debate isn't over just because you say it is.

BTW, I'm not "Ram Air guy". That would be ZB. You could call me "Cheap Bastard guy", or "Airbox Mod guy". Either way, I won't be offended.

Now, what shall we call you................
