The silicone itself is just the "skin", the carcass inside that is what makes it tough. Same as a tire: The carcass inside the tire carries all the loads, the rubber just makes it airtight and provides traction.

Damon is correct. When we make couplers for high boost applications, we add another layer of nomex fabric. The fabric is what contains the part. We make wall thicknesses from .170" to .225" depending on the application.
