before I go and drill a hold through my fire wall I was wondering if there was a spot that I might have missed that I can run it though. Thanks for you help again. Plz no flamage, just trying to get some info. want to get it hooked up before I take it to pettit tomorrow to get looked at. Also have my wide band gauge as well that I need to run the sensor outside of the car.

 

Best way is to simply drill a small hole down by the clutch pedal area. I was lucky in that having an automatic that area was the perfect spot...lol!

 

There is a space that some people use by the firewall and the driver side fender, but I just drilled a hole up above the brake / gas pedal area that is covered by rubber. The hole comes out at the top of the firewall by the brake lines. Just be careful not to hit anything.

 

Why are you guys drilling holes when there are several existing grommets/boots to use?

awd, you ran your car untuned at the track with no boost gauge?

 

I only saw 1 (pass side where the carpet ends. a small 1/2" rubber hose goes through but could not get the rubber gromet to come out.) where are these invisible place you speak of rynberg? i used the pfc and the greddy profec to monitor boost. Im adding the boost guage due to easier readings. yes I know Im dumb for taking it to the track and now im taking it to pettit to fix it. Dont know whats wrong with it. Hoping for the best but assuming the worst. Cross your fingers for me.

Well, if you did a SEARCH or read through the ARCHIVES or sites linked in the FAQ STICKY, you would find that there are several places people have used:

*unused grommet behind drivers side fender liner
*steering rack grommet
*engine harness grommet

etc.

Question and answered. wtf is the big deal? isnt that the purpose of a forum? this is the only one Ive ever been apart of that frowns so much on posting

 

It's behind the drivers side fender liner, you'll find a rather large hole that goes from the engine compartment behind the fender well then you'll see the gromet you can go through. It's alot less work drilling a new hole and putting a gromet in the new hole. But to each his own.

there is no need to drill anything...simply pull the drivers side wheel off...take off (or peel back the fender liner and there it is...

 

I can fit everything including the big *** probe for my mechanical water temp through the steering rack grommet.

 

the reason you search is:
1) because its been discussed time and time again
2) you can see the pro's and con's of where to run the wires (ie grommet versus the fender opening) and decide which way you want to go
3) you can see exactly how it's done so you don't have to make another post asking how to do it. That way you can ask more intelligent questions that more people will respond to.
4) just because you get an answer in the first couple of mins are you going to assume that's the right one or best answer??? Some people have made terrible recommendations with little experience before it could get corrected.
5) so you can stop being LAZY

I know many people posted answers already but having recently done an installation myself I'll add my 1 cent.

-Remove front driver side rim
-Remove front driver side wheel well covering half way, then leave it resting ontop of the rotor so it doesnt go back into place.
-Identify the rubber cover, you will have to push up and pull the sides , its hard to explain but use these two motions and you will remove the cover.
-Poke your finger through the hole, there will be grease, but you will exit near the wiring that rests along he left side of the driver side foot area.
-run hose through the hole and through your center console dash, a pillar etc.
-if your gauge doesn't come with enough hosing, you can just add an extension and make it work.

-this is probably the best location if you intend on mounting the gauge in the a pillar, and I guess it works for other locations, but it does require more hosing. I want to mount mine in the dash I want to cut out circles and do that type of install... I think that the passenger side is much more suitable for this since it is closer I would think the vacuum reading should be more responsive than a long running hose measuring boost.
