Where is the CEL located, next to ashtray?

Guys,

Actually asked this in a different thread but realised people probably wont go reading it there so started a new one.

Ive read that only the US cars had the CEL, so not sure if mine does (Australian Car)

There is a small light, almost like an LED, located next to the ashtray just aft of the factory alarm security light. Would this be the CEL? For some reason I thought it was an exhaust temperature warning light, but now I can't find any info on what it is at all, not in the manuals or on the forum.

Cheers All

It's the exhaust overheat warning light, the CEL is where the rest of the idiot lights are by the gauges.

That's what I originally thought, and just confirmed through the wiring diagram.

OK well it looks like I don't have a check engine light so I guess I'll just have to get an LED/resistor and bridge some terminals in the diagnostics box.

Cheers Buddy!

The small LED is probably an aftermarket alarm or something on your car. The exhaust overheat warning light is a big light that's clearly labeled.

You could be right you know, because it's quite small and almost looks like it was installed in an empty switch cover thing.

I've never seen it light up and I don't know what the deal with it is, because when I bought the car it only had the factory alarm, I put an aftermarket alarm in it but they stuck the LED on the dash.

Who knows, it's a mystery!
