Call another Mazda dealer. I don't believe you can't get one.

What makes you think it is bad? Sometimes they stick but I have freed a few up by cleaning and putting some wd40 and working them by hand.

Well the piston is really short. About 1/4 in. Can't be adjusted that much and it is currently no where near touching the throttle linkage. So you have good experience reusing them? I will definitely try and remove it and clean it. I just assumed it is 15 years old and the spring is worn out.

Try some kind of penetrating lube and work it in and out by hand. It is probably just stuck. I had to do this more than once when one decided to stick during a tuning session. I don't remember how much it goes for new, but if you can wait and it isn't too expensive, the best option would be a new one of course.

Thanks for the info. I prefer to use an OEM one if I can get it. If not I will go with the Master Carr one from that thread. I am having the backfiring during decel also and I have the problem that when getting into the throttle the car pulls like a freight train then when I shift the car declerates rapidly until I am back on the throttle so it is like a bucking experience. Not smooth delivery of power. i am hoping this is partially due to the throttle slamming shut and the dashpot will help. My flywheel is stock so it is not like I should be losing inertia that fast. Does that make sense?

I took out the dashpot tonight. It moves freely and I can feel the resistance of the fluid inside. However, about 1/4 in is all it sticks out. Even when I pull the piston out to about 1/2 in the liquid sucks it back in. Is 1/4in all it is supposed to stick out?

Mine is about 1/4 inch and is 3 years old. I'm not sure how far it is supposed to stick out. With 1/4 inch, you should be able to adjust it to contact the throttle return bracket. Just make sure you don't adjust it so far that it doesn't allow the bracket to return all the way.

They are $74 dollars from Mazda Motorsports brand new. I just ordered one. So I would guess they are prob. $8X.XX from Ray or maybe even in the $70's. Part Number is N3A1-20-190. If you want the bracket set as well(not really necessary) the part number is N3A1-13-W80 and it's around $10. If you have a PFC, you can adjust idle settings in the meantime to help out if your car is dying when you let off.

Are you sure your throttle body is adjusted correctly? If you have the throttle stop screw adjusted too far, the throttle plates will not close enough for the throttle cam to hit the dashpot. The little white plunger does not extend out that far. I think have have a different issue and if you buy a new dashpot you will still have the same problem. What is the car even doing? Stalling when coming to a stop?

No the throttle is adjusted correctly. I adjusted it as per Chuck Westbrooks PFC tuning notes. It doesn't die it does back fire on deceleration though and as of now the plunger is no where near touching. I adjusted it this morning to touch and the plunger just stays almost all the way in when it is warm. I already ordered one from Ray. It may not fix the backfiring although I suspect it will as when I initially adjusted it it was was over adjusted and would not close throttle all the way. Like this it no longer backfired but idled a bit high. I figure Mazda put it there for a reason so I want it to work. Thanks for the help.
