It says high temp but I wonder if it will have problems holding pressure????????

 

I can't make any guarantees. I would suggest calling mcmaster and asking if they have any data or know anyone that does. I have used some of the smaller sizes of that part and they're pretty robust.

 

Did you use it for coolant?

 

Man you've had your fd for at least 8 yrs or more, that includes the one you wreck. Shouldn't you know where to find stuff for it by now, I do recall you saying that you work on these cars at one point.

 

I've never had to buy BIG BLACK RUBBER NIPPLES THOUGH......

I have not used them on the pressurized coolant system, but I have had them in contact with coolant for a while without any problems. I'm using them right now to cap some of the intake nipples, but I've only boosted up to about 10 psi since I've been using them. No problems there.

 

Use braided line an loop it.

 

Braided line weighs too much. I'm going to try the nipples

That's the page with the vacuum caps and whatnot on McMaster-Carr. It's tricky to find for no good reason. They have silicone and EPDM - I bought a bunch of EPDM caps to use for vacuum caps - they work great so far, hold up to the heat well.

I believe the "Help!" plugs are EPDM as well. It says it on the back of the packaging. I originally used them in my AST elimination and after a few months, they started swelling and cracking.

I replaced them with the hose and stainless steel bolt method. No leaks nor swells and it's been a few years now.

I don't know if the McMaster EPDM ones will hold up or not, but I think I'd opt for the silicone ones if I were to try.

I popped some smaller HELP! ones on my AST elmination about 7 years ago. Then I did the hose-bolt-and-two-hose-clamps thing and they have been fine ever since.

LUPE, for nipples that large, I wouldn't trust any soft caps. I would either do a loop with fabric-reinforced hose, or pull the nipples out of the block and thread the holes for pipe plugs.

If you do end up using caps, slide something hard into the nipple and seal it in there with silicone. Then put the cap over it. Hopefully, the cap will never really have to hold the pressure or degrade from coolant and whatever settles in those dead-end passages.

Why not just crush the tube and weld it shut? Besides that I'd use the silicone caps if you want something reversible. I wouldn't trust rubber for any extended period in this case.

 

I bought the silicone caps from Mcmaster. They are very thin so I had to double them up.

They've lasted for some idling and some testing on the 2 step

 

I decided to user the silicone caps so that if I ever decide to sell the car, the option to put the heater back in is still open.
