Where to buy new motor.

I blew my motor in my 94 FD, now I need to get a new motor. Where are some places that have good motors. Also this is my first time doing a motor in a FD, how hard is it and how long should it take, I have done other motors, but never in a RX7. Thanks

I hear the Mazda remanufactured engines are coming with new rotor housings. Can anyone verify this?

If you plan on building a true 7 from the ground up, then I would recommend talking to the guys at www.pineappleracing.com. They know their **** and if you are open with them and tell them exactly what your overall goal is, they will tell you if it is realistic, and how long they can make it last. They also will warrantee race motors. Or if your not going to go out they can rebuild your core, into a 5 years 60k reliable beast. If you plan of going single then get the hurly apex seals till you have your setup fine tuned, and have worn out the motor. The Hurley's seals, will crumble to dust if you ping the motor, a meaning they hopefully not take out the rotor housings, rotors, and turbo/turbos. Once you got your car fine-tuned then you can move to the ceramics seals, one your next rebuild, which are a no wear item, and will survive multiple rebuilds. Don't start off on the ceramics unless you know wtf you are doing and already have finely tuned setup that you are 100% certain that you will not ping, or you will loose the rotor housing, rotors and turbo/turbos.

Mazda remans are cheep and you get what you pay for. You get no upgraded oil delivery system, or the option to port the motor, or what seals you would like to use, or the advice of a true professional.

Mazda remans vary a lot because they build to spec and only guarentee new seals and gaskets. This means you could get used rotors and housings if their core pile has used ones within spec. The problem with this approach is they could just barely be within tolerances and thus will not last very long. On the flipside, Mazda has also in the past put BRAND NEW, as in every part new from Japan, motors into the core program, so some lucky souls got a motor that would normally cost $6000 for only $2000. Many others have also bought a reman and then had it rebuilt, this is a cost effective option because upon teardown, often there are many new parts. Remember each rotor and each housing costs about $500 new.

I bought a remain from Mazda through Rotorsportsracing in NC. He then tore down the block, ported lots of stuff, added upgraded Hurley seals and springs, clearanced the rotors, and made sure everything was in good working order and put it all back together. He said I had two new rotor housings and one new rotor. One side housing required a little work, which he did as part of the deal. He also said Mazda covered the oil screen completely with engine glue. He said if I would have installed it like it was it may have blown in a few thousand K due to oil blockage. The total on the motor was 3500$ with me pulling and reinstaling the old motor, easy to do. I started it up last night and WOW it is super smooth. The motor also has a warranty. I personally recommend Brian, www.rotorsportsracing.com

Wait, so you can buy rotors and housings seperately?

Straight from a Mazda dealer like Mazdaformance? Can I just call them up and order a pair of factory new 13B-REW rotors or a new side or rotor housing?

Engine parts are probably a special order item from most dealerships, but Mazdatrix stocks just about everything under the sun. Knock yourself out

Was going to sell the 7 but a week before i was to sell it, the motor went, and the guy said he would give me 8,000 for it and i had to pay off 11,000, so i decided to keep the car and get a new motor and everything else. But, if i was to sell the car what would you give me for it?

I don't know who is complaining about rotorsport but I have no complaints just good things to say. As far as the porting goes Brian knew and was willing to talk about alot of stuff to someone who had not given him any money. Infact he did not ask what size port, he asked how much HP and what kind of turbo. I am going back soon to get him to Dyno in my HP and I guess that will let me know if he knows what he is talking about.

I was recommended to him by a friend that is very happy with his rebuild that is still running 3 years later, 5 to 6 trackings a year and weekend drags. In my opinion these things considered speak for themselves.
