I had a Mazda reman sent to KD Rotary in PA. They ripped it apart and redid it with all of their seals, as opposed to the stock ones. Motor was $2240, and KDR will charge you about $1650 to street port it. I know thats a little over your budget, but it's a possibility.

Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda is the only place to go for a factory reman motor. Just do a search here on the board for 'reman motor' and you will see why.

As far as street porting, what other mods do you have? It might not be worth it.

I should clarify, I got my motor from Ray at Malloy, 1-888-533-3400. It's $2240 with gaskets and shipping both ways (you send him back your old core).

Cheapest way to get it done is to order a reman from Malloy Mazda, as others have said, order porting templates from Racing Beat and do your own porting.

Porting itself won't cost you but a few hundred dollars. However, removal and reinstallation labor of the ported parts is what will knock you over your budget. If you remove the parts yourself and then have a shop port them, it will probably get you right at your $3000 budget with a reman.

Remember if you tear the reman motor apart you'll need 4 new outer coolant o-rings,oil pan gasket, waterpump gasket and front cover gasket.

I was basically at your position about 1.5 years ago. Learn from my experience. I had my motor sent to KDRotary where they did a rebuild and a street port. After being super delayed (and listen it's always going to be delayed no matter what they say) I put the motor in. 500 miles later the coolant seal let go. I sent the whole car back up to KDRotary to repair the motor. Another 5 weeks passed finally got the car back...

Don't get me wrong the car is a Bad ***, but there is always additional stuff wrong, like injectors needing cleaning and vaccum hoses to be replaced.

If I had to do it all over again (lord NO), I would by a reman from Malloy and just put it in the car. Hell I might even pay someone to do it, like a Rotary shop. The streetport is nice and it will help when you put more and more mods on the car. However if I had to do it over again, I would just get the malloy. Trust me the car is going to be fast enough for you.

Just my 0.02 cents.
Matt
