Btw, before I post, I search like crazy. I've found a lot of info on spark plugs, but I'm curious about the plug wires. I'm going to another oil change, along w/ pettit ast install. If I have time I'd like to change my spark plugs. But I dont know whether or not to change the plug wires.

I just got done visually examining them as best to my knowledge (moderate wrencher, here). My search has told me to look for wear/ broken wires. They look ok to me.

I've had my FD for 2 months. This'll be the first time I'll change my plugs, so I dont know the brands. Anyways what do you think, should I change my plugs wires as well?

Also I've decided to use ngk 9's (bone stock FD). My search said I can buy'em at napa, what do I ask for?

One more thing. From the looks of it, the plug change looks as easy as a oil change, is it easy?

Two of the plugs are easy, the other two are a little bit of PITA but doable with patience. I sugest starting with the trailing closest to the radiator then, leading, then trailing , then leading.

Plug wires, when you still get shitty spark after you just changed the plugs they are bad. If they pop right off the plug or don't stay on (you should hear and feel a click), every 100,000 miles, Torn boots, etc.

If you are bone stock, I don't think you need 9's. I doubt Napa will sell 9 leading. Most store are overpriced on the plugs and they do not stock them or tthey only stock the copper ones. The dealer is actually a good buy for the platinums but they won't have 9 leading either but you can order them from Racing Beat or RX7store.net and Summit Racing for Taylor Pro wires.

The plug change may or may not be easy. It really depends on the car.

I was unable to get my plugs out without loosening the coil rack so I could lift it a little. Even then, one of my plug wires was fused into one of the leading coils.

If you do change your wires, make sure to use some Dielectric Grease on both ends of the new plug wires.

Also, don't forget to put anti-seize on the spark plug threads. It's a rebuild if they seize up in there.

I think you should definitely change the wires, spark plugs, fuel filter, and flush out the coolant. It's always a good idea to change everything, especially since you only had the car for 2 months. Go with the NGK wires and NGK 9's spark plugs, you can pick these up at any Mazda Dealership.

*Tip* Don't go with Magnecor wires. Go with NGK wires.

What about Taylors? And what's wrong with the Magnecor?

I had a 3/8" hole in one of my ngk boots about 2 yrs ago and when I changed them... back to New Ngk... wow power was back online.

Now however, I have Taylors in for about 2 weeks and seems to be quite good.

I thought you just used the trailling plugs (9s) in the leading slots?? Thus you have all 9s. or am i totally off here? But if you are mostly bone stock and stock boost, then yes, run 7s leading and 9s trailling. Spark plug wires should last around 50K or so on a rotary motor i figure.

Thanks for the input guys. I never even thought of the dealership to buy these at. I'll see if they have'em. I'm sure they'll have the plug wires as well.

I've been looking at rob ribonette's site, the visuals help, the site mentioned something of if the plug wires have a blue cap, then those are stock. Well, my wires have a blue cap so I'm assuming they're oem. And I'm gunna try and do the change from underneath at first, seems a little easier I guess.

Btw, I've read on this anti-seize, is they're a brand name I can look for at the auto store, thanks again guys.

there is no reason to change the plug wires unless they are bad. the factory yazaki wires are better than any other wires in trems of both fit and life. the ngk's are a close second. jacobs would be last, the boots just dont fit. the consquencees of a plug wire popping off is a fried coil btw.

i normally don't like sitting/lying under the car too much... so i find it pretty easy to get to the plugs if you take off the intake elbow and go from there. Pretty easy still, and easier to move/route the wires around. What's the cost of some new factory plug wires anyway?

the ngk wire set is $35-45 and the yazaki wires are over $100. they yazakis are also hard to get because nobody knows about them
