Any real experience or thoughts? Does it work for FD?
Since my car is lowered and part of my side skirt body kit is wrapping around underneath the side of the car where jack need to be so I need to look for alternative way to change oil without using the jack.

I used to bring my own oil and filter to Jiffy lube facility and have them drain and change oil there since their change station is underneath the platform.

Any comment or suggestion would be much appreciated!

 

I actually remember looking at that product when I was flying somewhere in the past. I always wanted to know how effective it is as well.

Might have to research this product a tad bit more

 

I have a friend that uses a version of those for his boat. I'm not sure what brand his pump is but it seems to work fine. If you can get close to 4 qts, then I don't think it makes alot of difference how it comes out. On these cars there's alot left behind in the cooler(s) anyway.

 

I think one of key question is how deep tube can reach in dipstick tube. Looks to be a good alternative to change oil, just like to see if anyone have any good/bad experience on FD before I order it.

I saw few BMW forums talk about it and looks like it works well on their car so far and I saw this product when I was on American flight last weekend.

 

Actually the extra oil is hiding in the engine itself. I've tried draining the coolers at the hoses and didn't get anything else.

As for the tool in question, I can't say if that one in particular works, but the concept is absolutely sound.

There was a thread on this about 1.5 years ago. I work at a Benz dealer and we use them all the time. It comes with 2 different size hose, 3 hose all togeather (at least the one I have). One big one that goes into the drain bottle and 2 small ones that attach to the big one. One of the small ones is for oil, the other for trans fluid. I have placed it into the dipstick tube and it fits with no problem, all the way to the bottom.

 

Those oil extractors dont do the whole job,
I prefer to drain my oil the old fashioned way, takes longer byt gets the job done
YOu cannot pump all the oil out so you still have oil deposits and what else still at the bottom of the pan. I never liked the topsider sold for benzes so on my AMG i have it changed the old fashioned way.

 

I use somethign similar on my boat where you cannot drain the plug. They work pretty well. I actually used it to suck the oil out of my FD when I bought it and was pulling the motor. There was a slight bit left in the pan but not much. It could have been the angle I had the motor on.

 

Like that really matters on these cars anyways. There is so much oil hiding in other places, such as your oil cooler(s), oil cooler lines, turbos, turbo oil lines, etc., so contaminated oil is really a moot point.

An example of this oil contamination issue is to change your oil, run your car to operating temperatures, then drain the oil again. I can guarantee that the oil drained will be quite a few shades darker than you put it in.

With that said, these units are nice if you want a jack/mess free way of removing the oil. I've only heard good things about this, even on FD applications.

 

somebody jacked mine out of my back yard. I only used it a few times on my speed6 and it seemed to work well. i'd get another.

 

If you don't want to use jacks on the car, you could always get a set of ramps. I use them all the time. They work nicely for the rear of the car too.

 

Seems like a good tool for the lazy do-it-yourselfer.
