Paid 15,900 for my 94 R2 black on black. Worth every penny. Now has 111k miles on it with fresh paint, fresh engine and turbos before I bought it. I have tiddered on the idea of selling it for 18k and HAVE had people wanting it. So I guess it is settled and rose it's worth a little. I get "very clean FD" bout everyday. Miles on a car don't mean ****. I could tear up an FD make it look like 200k miles on it in 10k miles.

Yeah but it's a Vette? Did you get the requisite gold chain, hair transplant, and 19-year-old college coed too ?

Did I mentiond 95% of C5s sold come STANDARD WITH A SLUSH BOX? The 6-speed is an OPTION, for God's sake! What kind of sports car is that?

Manny

If a 19 year old coed comes with it I may have to rethink my aversion to 'vettes.

On second thought even that isn't enough to get me to buy a 'vette.

LOL.... That is pretty funny. You should have been there at some of the corvette get togethers. Many of the people there were just as you explained it. Of course the 19 year old coed doesn't sound that bad. LOL....
Always wanted a vette though, next I want a Viper. Just to say, yep, I had that car when I was young. You know the Grandfather saying "Let me tell you something sonny" LMAO!!! and as if you can't tell from my handle I'm an american muscle guy. I just love the RX7 for the go-kart handling, and rounded styling.
I'm not going to lay down on the vette though. I see z06's run 11.70's all day long N/A at the track. For a stock or relatively stock car that's very respectable. Add on even a moderate 6 psi SC and you have a mid 10 daily driver. If I get my RX7 in the 11's with the setup I have, I'll be excited. But once I put the Single I'll be really excited to see the 10's on a consistant basis. I say consistant because anyone that has the RX7 knows that heat saturation and temps play a big role in the timeslips the rex gets. Where a N/A car it still plays a role but no where near the drastic difference.
Don't get me wrong though I love my RX7. Honestly the main reason is because it's a relatively inexpensive way to the 10's. Much like the Mustang is. However you get the handling to go with it as well as a different status perception.

Sorry should have explained myself better. Vipers in the early models were prone to something going out with the 8th cylinder. Either the crank bent or something. All the ads that i've been going through and all the dealers I talk to tell me to look for one that has had the motor replaced.

So long as people keep wrecking, ricing, and racing the FD, it'll work in my favor.

despite how modded my car is, i've taken great pains to save every stock part i've taken off, and mountedd or installed everything in such a way that it could be removed without a trace.... well, except the porting in the motor... but my port is pretty mild, and causes no weird idling and pulls pretty good vacuum.

You start molding in body kits, cutting sheet metal for headlight kits and FMICs, drilling holes in the trunk for monster wings, gutting the interior, or painting it non-stock colors, or selling off all your stock stuff... you'll lose in the end.

I love it when people ask me how much I got my FD for. I like that stupified look ... and then, I get that same look when I tell them how much I've spent in repairs (NOT upgrades ... ok, the turbos, maybe).

As far as the car increasing in value, well, I don't necesarily agree with the trend, but I won't complain about it. If I get too frustrated with my FD in the next couple years, I'll be very happy to come out even upon selling it.

Yep... they are going up in price $$$... Hell, I almost increased the value of streetable REX's when I crashed mine on New Years day. Luckily, it's fixable.

Is the status higher or lower with the Rx7 vs Mustang?

The RX7 has alot more class than the Mustang in my opinion. That's not to say that I don't like the Mustang though. I've owned one and they are nice cars. They are easily modded, but much like the vette they carry around a stereotype. The vette has the I'm going through a mid life crisis attached to it. The camaro, mustang, and trans am has the Tim the tool man taylor attitude attached to them. The RX7, 3000GT, Supra, 300ZX, pretty much any turbo sports car, comes with a stereotype of the 23-35 year old guy that likes performance, but likes the ideals of a sports car and the idea of a sleeper. That's just my opinion though.
Everyone has their own stereotypes.

Assuming one would want to sell it. Why would I want to do that? For me, an FD is an investment in my happiness, never thought of getting a (monetary) return on it.

Barring any unforeseen emergency/etc that would require me to sell it, it's staying mine - as in as long as I live.

Sorry dude, thats just not true. The low mileage car, in the same condition, will ALWAYS be worth more.

A year ago, I paid $16,200 for my stock 94 white PEG with 41k. Mint condition with a $2500 stereo and $800 alarm. I'm glad to see that they are going up in value. I'm sure not planning to sell it any time soon!!

Thats exactly how I look at it. But its a nice little bonus to have the value of the car go up in value I think. I'm the third owner of my car and intend to be the final owner of it too.

It's not like the Mercedes that was produced in mass quantities, and continues to be made.
This guy has the answer! He couldn' t be more right. I got my 93 touring for 10,000 flat.

Can't leave out the zebra-striped, NFL-colored parachute pants either. And I think the mullet reference needs to be more specific ... the Billy Ray Cyrus mullet.

I wore a mullet in high school. It didn't look as good as Bono's though (Bono of U2 that is).

Now I'm sporting the Vin Diesel (Fast and the Furious) shaved head look, go figure?

I say if you have a red Rx7 like Vin and I do, you MUST wear you hair tight! It's easy to order this haircut too, and any barber can cut it! Just ask for a "triple ott on an Oster", and fade it out with outliners around the neck and ear area. You'll love the new look. It's FAST and FURIOUS

Are you kidding me? Our cars are TERRIBLE chick cars! I mean sure you'll get noticed by females, but most women (note I typed women, NOT girls) have not liked riding with me at Putnam Park Road Course. I'm batting 1000 with them getting sick after 10 laps! I'm just thankful none have acutally hurled "chunks" during the ride!

Yup gold chain, silver hair, no socks with the moccassin shoes. If you can picture Brock Yates of Car and Driver, you've got the typical C5 Vette owner nailed!
The camaro, mustang, and trans am has the Tim the tool man taylor attitude attached to them.
Our local grocery sacker (high school rich kid) has a Camaro. He "thought" his car was cool, until I had him carry my groceries and unload them into my FD R1...nuff said I think that our FDs are so rare, that we really are in the realm of the exotic sports car. You'll see Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Vettes on any street corner, but months could go by before you see another FD Rx7 on the road!

Agreed, except you need to broaden the age limits to 19- and 50-year-old males

In May I paid 29 for my 94 R2 with 7500 miles on it.

Given that the sticker was 38, I justified it to myself it being essentially a 1 year old car, for 9K off of sticker.

I didn't think I would have very many other chances to get such a low mileage Black on Black R2.
