What's my HBP engine worth? Parting the car out!
What's my HBP engine worth? Parting the car out!
I bought a FD as a project car and have since decided to part with it. I wasn't getting any serious interest for the car as an incomplete project, so I'm pulling the engine back out and parting it.
The engine is a half bridge and has 0 miles on it. I got the engine from the last owner of the car. He had it built by a local shop called Rotary RX a few years back. That shop has since closed down. Now the guy who used to own Rotary RX, Tom, was a very reputable builder here in the area and the person I picked the car up from was really reputable as well. Unfortunately I have no paperwork, but can guarantee that the engine hasn't been ran since there's still a good amount of Vaseline visible through the exhaust ports
Now the engine has sat for a few years. Since I've owned it, I turn the engine over once a week to keep things moving. The previous owner assured me that he had done the same.
According to the previous owner....
-Half bridge port
-Notched housings
-Brand new irons
-3mm RA apex seals
-banzai oil pan brace
He said the housings were brand new at the last build and he had cracked an iron, prompting the rebuild. The last engine was a street port built by Rob at Pineapple Racing. One of the housings still has the Pineapple Racing stamp on it. The rotors were apparently cryo treated and milled for the 3mm apex seals by Rob @ Pineapple.
Soooo.... What's the engine worth? I understand that without paperwork and going off someone else's word, it doesn't hold much weight. But it definitely hasn't been run since the rebuild. I need to know what a fair price would be when I post the engine up for sale.
Thanks
-Sean

You may consider this unhelpful but it is true. It is worth as much as someone will pay for it.
While it sounds like a great engine, when it comes down to it, we are having to rely on the word of a lot of people. We have no proof the original owner turned it over by hand every week.
If you get $2500-$3000 for it I'll say you did good.

I was considering asking $2200 for just the keg with the mounts and oil pan brace, and $2000 without. Does that seem fair considering the engine is lacking paperwork?
Thanks for the response. You at least gave me a ball park price which is what I was looking for.
That's where I'm at. I don't want to ask too much for it. The $2500-$3000 price if for just the keg, or complete?
