I hit 164 in my 7 w/ 94,000 miles on the engine. Compleatly stock. I stopped because my hood bent.
I was racing my friends GT2 just to see how I would match up against him, wasnt even a race. He stopped at 205 mph.
but yea, anything 140 + is freaky, if you survive going that fast and arent plastered to the wall, your foot starts shaking uncontrollably.. or atleast mine did, it just shook... adrennaline???

250km/h in a 60 zone (merging into an 80 zone by the time I hit 200 plus)....in Vancouver, Summer 96. 93 Silver FD3S, 20,000kms on her at CAD $ 35,000, pure stock.
Pissed the scaring **** outta me....I was putting out my right hand through the moonroof....the force is so strong it took me right back down to a safe 80+ km in no time....
It was a spontaneous act of impulse. With less than 1400 pounds at your feet, it's sometimes hard to control your pedals to the metal!
Cheers!

I totally agree with you guys that going 140mph in the wet was f***ing nuts. It scared the bee-jezus out of me. Why did I do it? I guess for the same reason I ever drive fast - adrenaline? The more fear you have, the more adrenaline. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants to stay alive. I've lost it in the wet at 30mph before, and I know how much this car *hates* the wet.
I wouldn't do anything that would risk anyone except me and my car. When I did the wet 140mph it was 1am on a deserted road and when I do any top-speed runs I try to do them at say 5/6am at the weekend when the motorway is deserted.. for a couple of reasons..
1) I don't want to hit anyone, and at 165mph as soon as you see something on the horizon it is pretty much on top of you - you don't get much time to react.
2) I don't want to go to jail. Even if my speedo over-reads by 10% like most do, I'm still doing 150mph - someone here in the UK just got 6 months at Her Majesty's Pleasure for doing 156mph..

The ability to drive well requires that you excercize control over yourself and the car, endorphins are something you don't exactly want surging through your body, narrowing your vision, putting your senses on edge, and affecting your judgement when doing potentially extremely fatal acts. The thrill for me is just in the act of doing it, I should also add that I didn't really feel very affected doing 140mph. I'd rather have my adrenaline rush on a roller coaster or eating jabanero peppers or something.

125 in my 85 GSL-SE
175 in a Lotus Esprit 340r
Dunno how fast my FD will go.. When I break in the engine I will let you know. If it can go past 180 I will be first in line to find out.

1st 3.483:1
2nd 2.015:1
3rd 1.391:1
4th 1.000:1
5th 0.719:1

and rev limit of 8000
we can calcutate that the gear speed limit for it is about 198.279 MPH . minus wind-resistance and such about 170 or 180mph is quite possible . but do you have to power to go there ? hehe

The Ricer Eliminator
That's exactly what it comes down to.
Power
I topped out at 150 uphill, but when I reached the top of the hill, I started pulling again until I let off at 173 or so. With more power, I bet I could have kept pulling up the hill.

I've been up to 150+ with my totally stock '94 touring FD.
It didn't feel as solid at that speed as my designed-for-the-autobahn Porsche 928 felt at 140 , but it felt a whole lot more grounded than my Volvo S70T5 felt at 140.
The scariest high speed moment for me was the time my ABS braking system kicked in at about 120 MPH. A car going about 60 moved over into the only empty lane in front of me... I hit the brakes hard and felt the pulse-pulse-pulse of the ABS. Freaked me out when I thought about it -- without the ABS I would likely have locked up a tire at 120 MPH, which could have been a big-time disaster.

I hate people who do that...it happens to me so much that I don't even get mad at them anymore, I just get real close when I pass them so they know what an idiot they are.

Wow. I'm a slowpoke in this thread. I've only been up to 137mph, in my stock 93 Touring, and that scared the hell outta me. I'd come around a bend or over an overpass and bam... there'd be a car right in front of me. Of course, adding to this speed was the fact that my wife was laying down in the passenger seat screaming, in full labor, about to give birth to my son. We made it from deep in The Woodlands, to Methodist Hospital, Houston, in under 30 minutes, and my wife gave birth less than 20 minutes later...

you guys scare me... i hit about 145 in my 94 fd with a few mods. i know it had a lot left but it's kinda scarry on these shitty so cal freeways.
should i be scared going over 150mph without a wing?
would a rear diffuser, rear spoiler, aftermarket front bumper and vented hood (i.e. mazdaspeed) make a noticable difference 150mph+?
suspension upgrades?
i'll post pics if i ever get a chance to go that fast. it's not easy in this damn city of LA with all the traffic day or night.
Mike
btw i thought Z rated tires are only good for 150mph or so. i read somewhere that after Z rating there's a Y and W rating good for 180 and 200 (or something)
let me know thanks.
