Whats that BOV in this pic ?

Hello,
Just looking through the picture sections (awesome looking) and came accross this engine pic.

Was just wondering wat that BOV looking thing is attached to the Elbow leading from the engine into the Intercooler?

ANd what purpose does it serve? I have an arrow to it =)

hks ssqv....its purpose is to make a loud high pitched chirp everytime you let off the gas pedal and **** off everyone around you and make birds think you car can fly with them

personally I do not like the ssqv. I would go with the non-ricer Greddy Type RS if you need a bov. I chose it because my stock valve was leaking under boost

is this there because he has a single turbo set up?
I thought the BOV come from the turbo area of the car..?
Why is this bOV comming from the intercooler piping?

oK That doesnt answer the question as to why that one set up has a BOV on the intercooler piping

where the stock has them comming right out of the turbo, why wouldnt that turbo just come out of the big single turbo?
I know how a BOV works but i was just wondering on the location of that one in the pic.

But seems that it is not necessary.???

is to relieve pressure from the TB i believe, so in theory the closer to the TB the better, thus why the greddy elbow was available with a bov flange. Anyway, i have the hks ssqv and i love it, you can buy different inserts for it to have a higher pitched sound or more of a woosh sound if thats what your worried about. I had a turboxs before and it leaked a little bit, no problems with the hks ssqv so far.

the ssqv will replace the stock bov and you will leave the crv in place assuming your still using the twin turbo set-up. Do a search or look through the archive.

BOV can sit anywhere on the IC piping. If you look closely, the original BOV hose is connected through the Y- Pipe. which the Y-Pipe IS a IC pipe. just the same anywhere. since all BOV opens the same way (by your vacuume hose).

and +1 to everything purerx7 mentioned

PureRx7 is totally correct:

Whilst a BOV can be installed anywhere after the compressor of the Turbo, Through to the throttle Body, it is best installed close to the Throttle Body.

This is because, when you let off the pedal whilst on boost, a "Shock Wave" (for lack of a better term) is caused by moving (and under pressure) air hitting the closed throttle body. This reverts back towards the compressor of the turbo and can cause damage. Having the BOV close to the Throttle body, vents this wave before it has a change to build up - basically stops it where it starts.

But a BOV installed anywhere in the piping is better than none..... we are talking details getting it close to the Throttle body... and details can often make the best performing vehicles

One just has to think of which direction the normal air flow is when under boost.
Having the BOV near the TB keeps the air flow in the same direction as it is being dumped.

A BOV by the turbo, dumps the air in the system backwards towards the turbo which then causes the turbo to fight it when the BOV closes and boost builds back up.

You have to think of fluid dynamics and what's best for performance.

Car companies think about cost, noise, and selling to the masses. The stock position (bad) is close to the air filter box which made routing of the dumped air into the AFB easy and cheap. This made it quiet for the non enthusiast who would buy the car. If the car was made for us only, it would have been different.

A little off topic, but what good does the IC do when mounted nearly horizontal???? As a matter of fact, it's more like an interheater by the way it sits in that picture.

SSQV

V-Mount

And seriously, whats with all the hating on the SSQV? I love mine Its a quality piece! It's kinda silly to knock the SSQV for its sound and then say the RS is better... Especially if your concerned about leaking...
