What's better: polishing engine parts or chroming them?

I'd like my parts to be as shiny as possible..I know there's no negative to simply polishing them, but is there anything wrong with having them chromed? I know goodfella cerami-chromes parts. Is that just as high of a shine as regular chrome or no?

Thanks,

Ian

The cerma-chrome is not as shiny as straight polished. However, maintenance is 100x easier with cerma-chrome. The approach I took was everything on the upper part of the engine was polished, the lower pieces were cerma-chromed.

What Mahjik said plus chrome the alternator, that is a difficult one to keep polished.

polishing is not that bad if you keep it out of the elements

Polished aluminum surfaces scratch easily and become duller over time unless they are clearcoated. Dull polished aluminum doesn't really look bad.
I can't wait for my polished rims to become a little less shiny.
However it is always easy to restore their original shine with buffing and polishing compounds if scratches are minimal and not too deep or pronounced.
This is a relatively inexpensive process for already polished components.
Chrome will possibly flake or pit and rust over time depending on the quality of the job and then the only way they will look good again is rechroming.... $$$.
I'm not certain how long meticulously prepared, multiple dipped chrome items last.

not really mentioned: never use simple green to clean your engine or engine components

it trashes Aluminum.

just a little bonus, incase you didn't know.

yea if you dont split it with water.. its like purple power 30-70 or 40-60 mix will not harm aluminum. i dip aluminum parts at a good warm temp and some times parts need to soak for 10-15 hrs to realy get in the pores and never had problems after i got the mix rite.
