Whats the best way to go about getting an FD?
Ok, the FD is the car of my dreams, and I know that eventually when I do get one, it will probably be just a tad more than I should be spending on a car, but when it comes to certain things I just have to spoil myself. Anyways, what is the cheapest way to go about getting an FD? Should I be looking for an engineless, or blown engine FD to get worked on and end up with a new/rebuilt engine, or should I take a hit and go for the whole thing and get a nice already working one? How much do motorless FD's go for, and how much for a new motor + install?

Cheap and FD can't be used in the same sentence.

IMHO the least expensive way to buy an FD is to by a good one to start with.
I was looking at a 95 with messed up turbos(plus some smaller issues) and by the time you put a pencil to everything that you had to do to get it fixed you were better off with one that ran right to start with.
On the other hand if you have lots of time to find used parts (no one gives these parts away) and do it all yourself (these cars are not that easy to work on) than you could maybe come out.
Mazda remanufactured engine $2000 or so, installed by a good shop $1500. Other stuff you will need/want to do, vac hoses, water hoses, oil lines. +-$500. If turbo is bad figure another $750 for rebuilt turbo, or B&R for lots more. This does not include any upgrades for FD problem areas such as the AST/downpipe/lack of boost/water temp gauges.
You might check at lamotorcars.com and see what Lance has.

If you put one together by yourself, by the time you are done with the learing curve, mods, and heartbreaks, you may end up having put in enough money to have bought 2 FD's that were already done.
Just to give you an idea. The guy I bought my RX 7 from had close to 50K in reciepts for the build up.....
