Question Whats The Best Short Shifter?

Looking at B&M, but that last post makes me a bit worried... Any comments and opinions welcome and appreciated...

I happen to really like my Pettit S/S, but others seem pretty happy with some other less expensive makes, too. Nice kit and simple install.--I upgraded the stock and emergency brake boots to (Gotham) leather while I was at it. Also, a good time to adjust the EB while you're there.

Good luck with the search.

I have the B&M Short Shifter and love it. Remember if you get the B&M it will feel like it 'clicks' into gears. You would also want to get a bushing for it.

I bought my dad the gotham racing one and it is awesome. I got myself the cheap ebay one to give it a try and I am quite surprised at the quality. The gotham one seems just a little bit shorter on the throws than mine.

I just put a b&m in my car not 30 minutes ago. It feels great, but it does kinda sound like it has a rattle in 2nd and 3rd gears.

Very happy with my RE Amemiya shifter. It is only a partial throw reduction as the OEM pivot point is maintained, however lowered shifter **** fits arm position well and I am not sure the synchro's can take (for long) the shifting speed that super short throw shifters produce. Straight shaft (US spec OEM shaft is bent to left toward driver) moves neutral to right of OEM giving to me a more natural movement from 2nd to 3rd, (puts 5th way to right). Comes with nice brass bushing. Similar to MazdaSpeed aluminium bushing

I believe the RX7Store/Pettit shifters are the same as the Mazdaspeed (IIRC). If so, they are a little more of a chore to install as they require the stock shifter to be disassembled. The B&M and others are just a direct bolt-on replacement application.

However, this may also be why people don't complain about rattling with the Mazdaspeed versions either.

you might want to try mazdatrix to get the aluminum bushing from them.

gotham short shifter comes with a new bushing. i bought it, and i like it a lot.

if your shifter does not come with one you can use the bushing that is on your stock shifter.

Are you talking about the bushing in the instructions (the one with the mazda part #) if so where does it go on the b&m?

when you pull out your stock shifter you can see where the bushing attaches. its on the bottom base where it hooks up to the tranny. you cant miss it....

Pettit all the way. It's not hard to install. If you can't install a short shifter then you need to sell your FD.

Not necessarily.

If you don't want to take a chance with the rattling, get a Mazdaspeed/Pettit/RXStore short shifter.
