What are you gonna do when your twins die?

I'm getting close to having to replace my twins and I'm trying to decide which way to go - new twins or a quick spooling single kit like the 35/40 or something similar.

Most of my driving is on the street on all types of streets and conditions - from stop and go traffic to some nice highway runs to an occasional HPDE at the track.

For the most part, I love the way the twins spool on the street which is why I bought the car. However, the control system is a bit high maintenance and has lots of failure points which gets annoying.

So which route will you take when your twins need replacing?

I recommend not going the "rebuild" route. I went threw 4 diffrent sets.
Luckly after the first rebuild they where under warranty. Just save your
money and go single, if you can afford the fuel upgrades and ECU. Its
like hit or miss with the rebuilt sets.

By the time my twins fail I plan on having all supporting mods done to go with an RX6 setup.

99-spec twins for me, if I'm still living in Cali. If I move to a non-emissions state in the meantime (not likely), I would have to seriously consider a very small, quick-spooling single. I could care less about having 400 rwhp...

I just blew my stock twins not a month ago....I just went with the BNR stage 2 twins instead of a single. The cost effectiveness just wasn't there for a single this time. $1000 for twins.....or $3000 for a single plus $1000 for an ECU plus all the other small ****.

Last time on my other FD when my motor blew I just went with a Race Ported motor, GT35/40 (at first) then switched to a T78, huge fuel system, etc....I went all out on that car, but when it was all said and done, I enjoyed the more streetable fun to drive car as opposed to the rwhp traction problem car.

My friend just dynoed his FD today to 327rwhp@14psi.

Stock twins
Mazda Reman motor
and his maps were so far off that we have to go in for retune....his AFR's are dropping below 10:1...so he should be able to squeeze out quite a bit more power once we raise the AFR's back up to 11.5:1 or in that area....plus we let off at 6800rpm instead of redline...so if his stock twins with 82,xxx miles on them with a reman non ported motor can do that....why bother going with some huge single. Estimated guessing on his car with a better AFR after some more tuning is around 345rwhp@14psi....my BNR's can hopefully even do a bit better than that.

in fact it all depends on wot you want, but as for me i think 99's is sort of cool you know not too much but it comes fast and sort of relyable.

Quick spooling single for me and ~375hp. I like the twins, but i dont like that cast-iron brick bolted right to an aluminum intermediate housing....the two best heat retention and heat absorbtion metals right next to eachother.

I would go for bnr stage 2 or the twin t28 kit from rx-7 store; i'm leaning towards the twin t28 (because I haven't seen alot of persons diong that on a 7 correct me if I'm wrong).

Not even a month ago I replaced my 160k mile twins with a set of 6k mile stock twins. It is pretty amazing the difference it makes replacing such high milage turbos!

I wonder how upgraded twins would perform with a tubular exahust manifold which still took advantage of the entire sequential system.....

I would probably go w/ a quick spooling single or maybe 99 twins because of my current mods. It would just be a lot cheaper.
