i would have the engine torn down if you have the money and have it street ported, coolant passage ported, etc and checked for wear on the housings. you never what happened to that engine in japan... could of been beat to hell. better to do it right the first time

J-spec engine
When my '94 original engine blew a seal at 68K I purchased a <30K miles J-spec RX7 engine (97 we think) not a Cosmo. It is a real strong engineand turbos. Pettit racing installed it out of the crate with only a couple of minor changes.
The upper intake manifold and throttle body on the J-spec are a little different so we used the original '94 components, including the rats nest.
The J-spec engines typically don't have a EGR valve which is not a problem unless you (1) need it for smog test or (2) you have a '94 where the ECU electrically monitors the EGR valve function. Not sure about '95's. '93's have a "mechanical" or non-electrical EGR valve so it won't be a problem. If you have a '94 and the J-spec engine does not have an EGR valve, then you will need to get a '93 ECU (< $100 used) to prevent the Code 16 Check Engine Light error. IF it is a '94, take the chance to lose the electrical EGR valve which is an unreliable component.
Good Luck

my car is axually a 94 rx7 but i have a 93 ecu. i purchased the car without a motor (so no ic in it). im putting a apex FMIC so ill need a pettit unlimitted ecu so my car doesn't run incorrect. it shouldnt be any problem with the unlimitted ecu right?
