Advice? Skip the Re-Amemiya oil. There are much more important maintenance and reliability opportunities for that money than exotic oil that offers small (if any) benefit over cheaper oil.

Many people here purposely use cheaper oil and change more often; given the immense fuel dilution and amount of oil left in the engine during a change, it makes a lot of sense.

look into replacing the stock water temp gauge if you havent already, it doesnt read correctly and may cause future problems.

Completely not necessary, all it's doing is further heat soaking the engine bay while it's flushing hot (and getting hotter!) oil through the system. Best bet is to just be responsible for the last 1/4 mile-mile of your drive. By that I mean stay off the boost, coast when possible, hell... take the car completely out of gear, and let the air flowing through your oil cooler(s) do it's job of cooling the oil.

My guess is he's a newb in the military, and is stationed out there. He either brought the SRT-4 with him, or is just comparing the 7 to how he remembers the 4.

unless you are runing side by side I wouldn't put too much stock on your srt being faster. Like others have said stock for stock they should be comparable.

Butt dynos can be way off when it comes to comparing piston cars vs rotaries. Reason being the torque. The "kick in the pants" that comes from torquey cars make people think than they are faster than they really are.

Even still your car may indeed be underpowered and it should be checked. Most common issues are boost related... boost leak (they are not always audible), vacuum hoses, solenoids. Other issues can come from a clogged exhaust, the culprit almost being the pre-cat.

For the OP..... ^this was my point when I mentioned the $140 oil change. My indirect way of saying it was a colossal waist of money. And just one more reason I recommend you hold off on performance modifications and just learn about the car.

I get the impression that people are just randomly posting w/o taking into account your location and mileage. I question most of the responses on here given those 2 facts.

My suggestion is for you to spend some time reading the FAQ and the links in there so that you have the knowledge to make your own decision on what to do rather than trusting in people you don't know to spend your money. If you want to put your trust in others, then find a good rotary shop near you and see what they have to say about the local products offered in Japan.

Since the car is new to you, I'd spend the bulk of my money on maintenance - not mods. Tranny oil, Diff oil, rear suspension bushings, replace AST, coolant and coolant hoses (stock coolant hoses and new coolant hose clamps), fuel filter, flush brake fluid etc.

well first of all I would never have wasted 140 dollars on an oil change. I dont care what kind of oil it is.

I agree with Jim and most that mentioned to address any issues the car currently has.

Yes I am a newb to the rotary engine and 7. However I'm not in the military and like I said my SRT (left in cali w/ pops.) is not exactly stock. If my 7 had the same mods it'd prolly be a different story. As for the oil change I will take in account that I may have spent too much but unfortunately there aren't many auto stores (o'reily, autozone, checker, etc.) here on Okinawa. And I would much rather pay the price rather than have my oil changed on post with APS oil and some shitty filter. In addition we cant work on our cars here for they are quick to give you a citation. (live on post) I will be sure to use the T-timer for its voltage meter ability versus letting the car run after I've turned it off. Thanks for the clarification on that. I will get a boost gauge tomorrow for the shops are closed on wed. to assess if I'm having boosting issues. From there I think I will continue to flush the fluids.

Agreed. Not many of us here in the States get to see an FD with less than 30,000 miles any more.

That's the worst advice I've ever heard! J/k I completely agree with this statement.

People are telling you to change the fluids and you keep going on about your oil change... you do understand there are other fluids to change right? Transmission, diff, coolant, brake fluid?

You don't need a turbo timer, they're worthless. Spend 10 seconds letting the car idle and then shut it down, you don't need it running and heat soaking everything in the parking lot while you're getting your slurpee.

You should get some reliability mods like an aluminum AST, aftermarket radiator, etc... Don't start messing with the vacuum lines until you start having boost issues. Have you checked your vacuum at idle and the boost pattern? Do you know its correct? Sounds like you need a boost gauge.

If you only have $600 to spend, you may not enjoy this car. When things begin to break, and they will break, you're going to need deeper pockets to keep it running right. This ain't no magic srt-4 (fastest car in the world).

Thanks, I have already taken in the lesson regarding the t-timer and am only using it as a voltage meter. I had the transmission fluid flushed yesterday, on post unfortunately but whatev and I plan to get my fuel filter replaced along with a boost gauge installed. Chillax fellas I'm taking it in and working on it all. Im no baller so its not like I got ten grand to dump in her at once. So I am going to get what has been stressed as critical first mods as soon as I can and continue to drive responsibly by hardly letting her boost, if at all. As for the SRT well I just said I expected more thats all. Thanks to all for making sure I'm doing right by my rotary.

Thanks. Yesterday I got the fuel filter replaced and project Mu brake pads all the way around plus brake fluid flush and change. As for the rest of my funds, I'm going to get an alignment and save for a radiator and coolant flush. Part + fluid flush= satisfying feeling.
