what is RX-7 stands for??

Always wanna know what RX-7 stands for? why is it call rx-7? rx-3? rx-5? thanks!!

According to my book "Sports Car Color History:Mazda RX-7" by John Matras it stands for Rotary eXperimental. Seven is the model number after the Cosmos, RX-100, RX-2 , 3, 4 and so on.

And according to the book "RX-7" by Jack Yamaguchi it stands for Rotary eXport 7. I think this will be debated till the end of time...
