what r the symptoms of only 1 rotor running???

hi all

am worried that Im only running on one rotor....sob.

have any of you had this happen???

what are the symptoms?

here are my symptoms...

very rough idle...bub bub bub bub bub bub bub...til 3000 rpms....then it sounds smooth....it also shakes a LOT at idle...liek a broken motor mount or something....

it only feels like it is pulling about two thirds as strong as normal during test drives...maybe half.....

it also is very boggy off the line....chugs a bit...

BUT...here is what I dont understand... at any cruising speed over 15mph the car sounds perfect...that is just until I accellerate...then it just feels slow..but sounds only slightly rough....

what do you think?

input is appreciated.

When was the last time you changed your spark plugs/wires?

If you havent changed them in a while they could have gotten fouled and are no longer sparking, hence the rough idle and bogging down.

Any smoke?

new plugs and wires on june first

did have a leaky injector somewhere...smelled fuel for quite sometime...did try to fix the prob...third set of injectors in now...no smoke difference at all to my knowledge...nothing but the above symptoms....

except when I turn on the a/c at idle...it stalls.

thats it....

how hard is it to foul plugs? I will try in the morning..replacing plugs and wires...and a compression check...yikes.

Check the vaccum at idle, if you have a boost guage, and it's reading closer to 0psi than normal, you've probably got a bad motor, plus just get a compression test, it's the best way to know.

If you run your car hard and are always running rich, they'll foul a lot quicker. When I changed mine they were all black and the electrodes got all warped looking. When I put some fresh ones it, it felt a lot better

good luck on the compression check

thanks guys...any advice is appreciated....will test boost and compression in the morning...god help me.

I do run very rich...that dang gforce ecu makes my tail pipe smell like a friggen gas pump ...

When the event happend...I was in third at about 80mph....I heard a POP and then it didnt boost....I pulled over...the cap where my boost guage is supposed to go had popped off....I replaced it and it ran better..it would at least idle...with the cap off it would not idle at all....then this morning I removed the manifold section with the butterfly valves and looked for a leak or missing hose...nothing...put everything back together and it ran a bit better (ya got me...I didnt do anything different). it now sounds like the turbos are boosting....its just not as fast...2/3's as fast.

it stumbles and chugs at take off...

IF IT WAS ONLY ONE ROTOR THEN WOULD IT SOUND PERFECT AT CRUISING SPEEDS ...like with the cruise control on????

Artguy,
I don't want to scare you, but when my engine went it had "very" similar symptoms. It would run real rough at idle, but would then clear up as the rpms went up. I actually thought it was normal cause it would run "decently" while accelerating, but my vacuum gauge was all over and then the compression test gave me the final proof. It would also stall alot while starting off in 1st. Check the map sensor also. If the hose pops off the car will run terrible. Good luck!

Have you checked the hoses from the plenum to the MAP sensor? Maybe a hose fell off or is split. Also check that little filter thats inline with it. Damm that would nice if thats all it was.

Unhappy

You described what I noticed when I blew my motor.

Hope you can find a cheaper, simpler cause.

Best of Luck

GREMLINS

well another rotary in the garbage can....blew out my apex seals for the rear rotor...

my compression for the rear was 7,3,2

Im going to have to scramble for cash again...dammit.

am getting the porcelain 3mm seals...I should have done that the last time...I will run 13-15 lbs of boost safely. I will find a way. argh.

well back to macaroni and chees for me.

thanks for all the help.

it was the rear rotor after all.

jason

will be upgrading the injectors and adding another set of rebuilt turbos at the same time...thankfull the turbos are under warrantee.

I wonder what the v8 conversion is like...

hhahah...yah right!!!

ugh sorry to hear that... I hope you can still reuse your rear rotor housing if the apex seals shattered. corn flakes are better, but mac and cheez works well. ramen noodles are the cheepest. 10 for a 1$ when super markets have sales.

am looking forward to the ceramic 3mm apex seals and 16-18 lbs of boost though...woo hoo!!!

Im getting my turbos rebuilt for free under warrantee and am upgrading the injectors as well. I cant wait to get it all done...it will be a much better car..

Ive got to do all the bushing in the rear too..any input on that is appreciated.
