What will put the car into the limp home mode? I know that a MOP or MAP problem will do it, but what else? I'm asking because just recently, my check engine light came on, and the car seems to be running in the safe mode- cutting out once boost hits and backfiring like crazy. My biggest problem is that it is intermitten, the check engine light will come on and off, and jerk like crazy whenever it does. I checked the codes, but it isn't showing any(and I'm doing right). I need to know what to check for. I have a pettit ecu and an afc. The pressure sensor on the afc reads good, but I disconnected it(while reconnecting the pressure sensor wire) for good measure> I also put my stock ecu in with no change. The TPS seems to be fine, and so does the crank angle sensor. What else should I check?

If you have a check engine light on that means an open or short in a sensor!!! start looking at maybe fuel thermosensor and so on. check w/voltmeter using the ecu wires get a shop manual if you dont have one.
i will check my manual once i get home to see whats else it could be

Thanks Ryan, but here's the deal, I looked in the manual, and it seems to show that only a few things will put it into limp home mode. Problems with the MAP sensor and metering oil pump are a couple, but the thermosensors won't. When the check engine light comes on (in my car) the A/C compressor disegages and the engine stumbles. In neutral, it will rev smoothly until I try to get any boost and then it's like hitting fuel cut. I know my wiring harness is nasty, and if I need to replace it I will, but I don't know if that's the problem. I've been considering buying a haltech just so I don't have to deal with the stock computer's B.S. I just wish it would throw a code for me!
