what is a power plant frame?

Hey guys,
I'm just wondering if someone can explain to me what this powerplant frame thing is and where it goes. I was just browsing through the rx7store's website and came across it...
any explination would help. thnx.

The power plant frame (or PPF) is a long hunk of metal which bolts to the tranny, runs down parallel to the driveshaft, then bolts to the differential. Stock FD's have them, just the Mazdaspeed one is supposed to be stronger. Although when I took my stock one off it seemed pretty beefy.

I don't know how functional these are. You may want to ask "carcrazy" on this forum about it, he has one on his car, (shown in the second pic).
IMO, a set of new bushings would probably have a big impact in this area.

and when it gets cracked and you push the car really hard theres this fast knocking sound comming from the back of the car, it sounds like the car is about to fall apart.

The PPF was one of the trick components that Mazda designed to add serious strength to the chasis and to help keep it light. Stock was designed for road race and not drag race!
