Cool What plugs should I run ?

Q. for the Rotary guru's out there.
For the mods that I have (see in sig. below) what plugs should be best for my FD, mostly street driven.

Time has come for a tune-up, I'm running regullar dealer plugs right now.
Also where would be the best place to get them for a good price?

Thanks in advance .

I would go with a set of these. Otherwise go with copper 9's all the way around if you have a lot of modifications. If you only have a few modifications, stick with the 7's and 9 NGK's.

i read a few different articles on the web that shows there is no difference in performance when comparing regular 9s to any of the more expensize platinums. Even the small increase in longevity doesnt justify the cost....like i said...go get ngk 9s from pep boys.

Has anyone ever proven the difference in life expectancy between the copper and platinum plugs? The plats are more, but I can see spending a few more bucks for a longer interval between plug changes, especially with plug prices steadily increasing over the years.

Hopefully all the RX8's out there will bring the price of iridium plugs down .

Ahhahahahahahahahahaaaaa, LMAO, RX-7 up, Glass Man please stop, I can't take this no more, I haven't laugh this hard for a long, long time. OMG... I got tiers in my eyes.

------------

OK back to the topic, how often you guys change them, I never noticed any difference in performance or any difference when changed in 4-5 or 8-10k miles, seems like the car works the same with new ones as with the 10k mile old ones !!!

I run 8/10's iridium's. I see no reason to run the same for lead/trail. If I wasn't using the snomobile plugs, i'd prolly run 9P's and 10 iridums and replace the 9's while cleaning the 10's but it runs perfect with 8/10's and stock iridiums are $30/ea versus $6/ea.

How much boost do you have to be running for the butt plugs? Does it make a difference on the butt dyno? Does the car vibrate more? Do you have to start with smaller plugs till she gets used to them? Can you flood the engine with too much lube? I would think it would buck quite a bit. May take a bit to warm up but then her *** will be all over the place then she will want bigger meats!

Actually, the stock specified plugs for the FD are BUR7EQP and 9EQP's - the platinum NGK's. The 2nd gens used the non-platinum, copper 7's and 9's stock.

Really, the only difference with the platinum tip is slower erosion of the electrode - that actually, in theory, makes it better for a turbocharged car, since they're usually quite hard on plugs.

The question I have is - is the extra price for the platinums justified by the increased life of the plug? If it costs 30% more, and you get double the life, it's definitely worth the extra money, but if it's twice as much and you get 10% more life, it's money down the toilet.

BTW, Sparkplugs.com (which doesn't really have the best prices, but they're a reference here) has the copper plugs for $6.40, and the platinums for $7.60 - a pretty small difference, about 18%.

Besides that, platinum is a better conductor than copper and as a result higher current in the spark. Higher current, more complete burn, more power.

i dont think the benefit justifies the cost. I spent under $5 per plug.

Also note that KD rotary uses the regular 9s as well.

I posted about this a few days ago, but no response. In the shop manual it states BUR7EQP (platinum) and BUR9EQ (Copper) are the stock configuration. Anyone know why this set-up is recommended by Mazda?

This is not true, check your facts. Copper is a better conductor. Go with copper plugs. The platinums will foul out before the tip goes bad. I have more info on my site.
