I've actually let my car idle just to watch the temps and they definitely go up a lot more than going down. That is not helping the car at all.

Also, this post just about sums it up:

Taking a minute or two to drive off boost is enough and better. People don't just drive 45 minutes at 14 PSI and then immediately shut their cars off. Even in that case a 10 minute turbo timer isn't going to do much good without some fresh air coming through the radiator.
Hey Mahjik, I value your opinions and knowledge but I have a question...have you watched the temperatures after shutting the car off in the same situation? It's just my theory is, is that if the car's not moving whether it's on or off, it's going to get very hot from no fresh air or cooling.

Also, Louis, you mentioned MP on your list, but if you're in a emissions-controlled state I would suggest you stay away from a highflow or stock cat.

I've had 15 turbo'ed rotaries, 13 FDs and 2 TIIs. You don't need a turbo timer. Drive off boost for the last couple miles and shut the car off.

I also agree that the guys that have the turbo timer like to have people ask why the car is still running as they walk away.

I use my turbo timer in conjunction with my AC to run my fans, not the engine. I shut the car off, then turn the ignition on and st3 the turbo timer for ~10 minutes. I have found that it really helps to cool the engine bay. If you do this you need to make sure you have a good strong battery.

Yes, the car will heatsoak once it's off, so you want the temperatures as low as possible before turning the engine off. This is why letting the engine run and heating up even more is not a great idea.

Shutting my car off at 205F just after pulling into the garage verses shutting it off at 215F+ after letting it idle for a few minutes is quite a difference.

If our turbos weren't water cooled, turbo timers would be a must just like the other reliability mods.
