What to mod first?
What to mod first?
Hi,
I plan on purchasing a 3rd gen RX-7 this spring/summer. I would like to start modding it right away, but starting off small. Wanting to increase the overall RWHP by 25-45...any ideas on where and what I should be looking to replace/add?
And as far as bringing a 10 yr old car up to a mechanically sound state - as if it were just bought brand new, what recommendations to you have? Such as replacing hoses with this or that and checking for this sorta thing...ect.
Thx guys,

sounds very familiar.......
Use the search button on the forums and find that there are a lot of useful posts to help you out, im in the same boat as you, looking to buy one in summer. check out the "newbie stickies"(posts on top of 3rd gen post page) there are websites there that explain everything from reliability mods, performance mods, and read them very carefully. Usually people start with a downpipe replacing the unreliable pre-cat. Also adding an alumminum AST since the stock one is plastic and breaks off, leaks, ect ect. Also adding a boost gauge is very important to watch out for boost spike/creep. After you finish the reliability mods, you can usually add a catback and intake without upgrading an ecu. But some say upgrading your ecu even before the intake just to be safe. Adding a straight-through midpipe will increase airflow greatly, but upgrading your ecu is a must before that step.
Anyways, thats my 2 cents, I havent been on these forums for long but thats what ive gotten out of it. Also expect some criticism since its a repost, just use the search button and the newbie stickies and you'll be in good shape.
Welcome to the forums and I hope you get that rx7 and treat it right!
