what metal do you use for heat shields

just want to customize my own heat shield and wondering what type of metal to use, how thick it should be, and where to buy it

Aluminum. Thickness and such Im not sure. Ive heard it doenst have to be to thick.

most people get that aluminum sheeting at home depot for air intakes if that is what you are talking about.

use 10 gauge so you can bend it the way you want and use a sheet metal snips to cut it,then file sharp edges down cost $20 or less from home depot

Is 10 gauge not too big? Well no too big, but just a little too extreme. I used 16 gauge to block of some stuff and it seems plenty thick for a heat sheild.
