I use black laquer paint. Can be bought at home depot.

Just get something that will "bite" into the plastic a bit.

I was considering using Testors enamel for models too, but ended up going the Rustoleum Lacquer route.

Ryan,

Just use any black paint that and make sure it has a nice gloss to it. I used some all purpose stuff. make sure it labels as being able to stick to plastic. I've thought about using high temp engine paint b/c it's so thick and it does give a nice gloss. Remember to use many thin coats.

If you need help, find me online. Cutting the masks and putting them in the middle was the long/hard part.

I used Hammertite Rust Cap Black in the Smooth Finish. It ends up looking like plastic, with a subtle texture. The finish is flat. It's more designed for rusting metals, but it worked great, and it doesn't look like a painted surface, it has a nice texture. Unfortunately I don't have a good digital camera to show the effect. I tested the paint on empty plastic whiskey bottles (Early Times for drinking mixed, Maker's Mark for sipping or shots).

I would try different paints out before doing it. I am a fan of the new textured spray paints, I have done some lighting fixtures around the house, and they look great (guests have commented, asking if we had bought new lighting).

I'm thinking about using it on my interior panels, which are peeling just a bit near the ashtray (after stripping of course). But that would be a couple of months down the road.
